requirements for the surrounding local municipalities and
<br />counties. Estimated the extreme water surface elevations
<br />around the island and calculated the freeboard of several
<br />seawall elevations when compared to various storm return
<br />intervals considering sea level rise. A recommendation on the
<br />top of wall elevation was made that would provide protection
<br />to the upland properties.
<br />Savannah Harbor Expansion Project – Sediment
<br />Basin Evaluations, USACE Savannah District,
<br />Savannah, GA. The Savannah Harbor Expansion Project
<br />(SHEP) deepened the Savannah Harbor federal navigation
<br />channel from a depth of -42 feet to -47 feet. Deepening will
<br />produce substantial economic benefits by enabling larger
<br />and more heavily loaded vessels to call on the harbor with
<br />fewer tidal delays. Deepening only accounted for half of SHEP;
<br />the other half included a range of environmental mitigation
<br />projects designed to mitigate the negative water quality
<br />impacts of deepening. Led the hydrodynamic and water
<br />quality modelling evaluations to determine the effectiveness
<br />of constructing a sediment basin weir structure within the
<br />estuary. Impacts of the weir construction on Dissolved Oxygen
<br />(DO) trends were investigated. Additionally, the modelled
<br />hydrodynamics and water quality parameters were compared
<br />to ecological thresholds to develop a habitat suitability index
<br />for local fisheries of interest.
<br />Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Sediment
<br />Investigation, USACE Savannah District, Intracoastal
<br />Waterway throughout FL, GA, and SC. The USACE
<br />Savannah district required services related to sand
<br />investigations within the intracoastal waterway throughout
<br />coastal Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Worked with the
<br />field team tasked with the vibracore collection of sediment
<br />samples at over 20 locations throughout the state. These
<br />sediment cores were evaluated for potential beneficial reuse
<br />applications for nearby Projects.
<br />City of Fort Lauderdale Storm Water Asset
<br />Management and Vulnerability Assessment, City of
<br />Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale, FL. The city of Fort
<br />Lauderdale, FL is interested in developing a comprehensive
<br />GIS based database containing stormwater assets throughout
<br />the city limits. Stormwater Inlets, manholes, weirs, outfalls,
<br />and other control structures that are tributary to two pump
<br />stations are of particular interest. Provided field condition
<br />assessment, survey, and instrument installation services
<br />at over 1,400 stormwater structure locations. Examples of
<br />data collected at each structure included X,Y,Z location,
<br />connectivity, flow direction, and condition. Assisted with
<br />the installation and subsequent operation and maintenance
<br />of two flow meters and rain gauges at two primary pump
<br />stations to monitor the fluctuations and seasonality of rainfall
<br />and stormwater flow. This information will be used to inform
<br />a predictive asset management plan to prioritize assets at
<br />risk of failure or under performance during critical times.
<br />Additionally, an assessment of the City’s major stormwater
<br />outfalls was conducted to inform the current condition of
<br />these structures and their vulnerability of failure under future
<br />climate conditions. This information was used by the City to
<br />inform their Capital planning and improvements budgets in
<br />the short to medium term.
<br />Sunset Marina Flushing Study, Confidential Client,
<br />Key West, FL. A private marina in the Florida Keys is
<br />proposed by a local developer. The marina will be constructed
<br />using floating concrete docks with finger piers suitable for
<br />small to medium sized recreation vessels. To ensure the
<br />proposed marina does not diminish the natural tidal flushing
<br />of the surrounding area, a residence time study was required.
<br />Provided hydrodynamic modelling oversight of flushing
<br />scenarios to quantify the time required to dissipate a non-
<br />decaying tracer within the marina footprint. Multiple model
<br />runs under various environmental scenarios were performed
<br />to quantify the sensitivity of the flushing times relative to the
<br />conditions. The proposed marina demonstrated the ability to
<br />adequately flush a hypothetical tracer in the time required by
<br />the state regulatory agency.
<br />Titusville Railroad West Muck Estimation, Brevard
<br />County, Indian River Lagoon, Titusville, FL. Parts of
<br />the Indian river lagoon located in Brevard County, FL have
<br />experience significant deposits of muck with various physical
<br />and chemical compositions that is undesirable for the
<br />surrounding ecosystem of lagoon. Brevard County required
<br />field vibracoring activities to collect samples throughout the
<br />muck deposit areas and characterize the composition, extents,
<br />and volume of the muck substrate. Provided data analysis and
<br />produced figures delineating the extents of the muck deposits
<br />along with estimates of the muck cubic yardage necessary to
<br />inform follow-on muck removal activities.
