Environmental / Coastal Engineering
Dear Mr. Betancur and Members of the Selection Committee:
The City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed to protecting and enhancing its coastal resources through
resilient planning, sustainable waterfront development, and effective hazard mitigation. Advancing the
City’s Coastal Management Goals, including conserving wetlands, beaches, dunes, and marine habitats;
increasing water-dependent and publicly accessible shoreline uses; preserving traditional waterfront
activities; improving community resilience to hurricanes, flooding, and sea level rise; and supporting post-
disaster recovery, requires a team with specialized expertise in waterfront planning, coastal engineering,
and marine structural design. Moffatt & Nichol is ideally positioned to support the City through an
Environmental / Coastal Engineering Continuing Professional Services Contract, delivering integrated
planning, engineering, and design solutions that help achieve these long-term coastal management
objectives. Our team brings specialized expertise in waterfront planning, coastal engineering, marine
structural design, and resilient infrastructure to help the City achieve its long-term coastal management
and resilience objectives.
Our qualifications package demonstrates our extensive capabilities in managing coastal and environmental
projects. We take pride in our firm’s focus on waterborne infrastructure, which includes shoreline
armoring, beach and dune enhancements, erosion mitigation strategies, seawalls, piers, fixed and
floating marinas, boat ramps, and dredging. Our expertise is rooted in the essential intersection where
land meets water, offering innovative solutions to safeguard the City’s waterfront assets.
We are acutely aware of the risks posed by sea level rise and our approach integrates resilience and
flood risk analyses. Utilizing cutting-edge tools, including numerical modeling, compound flood analysis,
and artificial intelligence, we develop comprehensive designs that address both short-term needs and
long-term sustainability. These solutions are designed to minimize risk while enhancing the protection of
the City’s critical infrastructure. With over 100 professionals in Florida alone, Moffatt & Nichol boasts a
diverse team with expertise in coastal, environmental, marine structural, electrical, mechanical, and
civil engineering. Our offices, including our Miami location, are home to dedicated administrative, CAD,
and cost estimating staff, all working collaboratively to ensure the successful delivery of each project.
For over 20 years, we have built trusted partnerships with municipalities across the state, continually
delivering projects that are cost-effective, sustainable, and resilient. Our focus on “right-sizing” projects
delivers a balance between community needs, available funding, and the expected service life of critical
infrastructure.
