Our innovative designs extend the service life of aging infrastructure while incorporating vital considerations such as coastal wave protection, environmental compatibility, water quality, and storm protection. INTEGRATED COASTAL ENGINEERING: Our deep understanding of coastal conditions—including waves, currents, and water levels—enables us to anticipate the unique challenges of waterfront development. We are particularly knowledgeable about the conditions surrounding the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway and Dumfoundling Bay, where the design team has modeled local meteorological and ocean (metocean) conditions for several projects within the community of Sunny Isles Beach. COASTAL ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITTING EXPERTISE: The Moffatt & Nichol team has unparalleled experience with processing regulatory permitting and proprietary authorizations for coastal construction, shoreline stabilization, and other marine projects throughout Miami-Dade County. Moffatt & Nichol staff have permitted a significant number of projects within the City of Sunny Isles Beach, including within the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserve which affects the south portion of the City. Our staff recently participated in workshops and worked with the County Commissioners’ office to update sections of the Miami- Dade County Code for coastal construction projects. In addition, the firm has permitted many coastal development and dune enhancement projects through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s (FDEP) Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL) permitting program, including major projects within the City such as the St. Regis Residences, Residences by Armani | Casa and Estates at Acqualina. We also process U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Joint Coastal Permits for beach nourishment projects.
