QUALIFICAtIoNS 58P261925RFQ # 26-07-01 • CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL ARCHITECTURAL AND ENGINEERING CONSULTING SERVICES (CCNA) <br />Project Challenges Or Unique Design <br />Requirements <br />Moffatt & Nichol has worked in collaboration with <br />federal, state, and local authorities, as well as <br />environmental groups, to develop alternatives that <br />can provide immediate storm risk protection benefits <br />while also pushing to further study the potential <br />benefits of nature-based solutions for CSRM. <br />As these alternatives were developed, Moffatt & Nichol <br />worked with local regulatory authorities to ensure that <br />any nature-based solutions proposed within Biscayne <br />Bay were feasible from a permitting perspective. <br />Finally, public workshops have also been essential to <br />this process as we work to find solutions that fit within <br />the USACE framework and provide the community <br />benefits that the public expects. <br />Innovation and Technology <br />The Nature-Based Solutions Pilot Program is a first- <br />of-its-kind study that will propose multiple nature- <br />based solutions pilot projects throughout Miami-Dade <br />County to be evaluated, designed, implemented, and <br />monitored to assess their effectiveness at reducing <br />coastal storm surge. This pilot program will help <br />USACE explore nature-based solutions as coastal <br />storm protection features and inform how USACE <br />incorporates these natural and nature-based features <br />into future CSRM studies. <br />upgrades, as well as maintaining local property <br />values and views. The system consisted of low <br />crested breakwaters, elevated structural breakwaters <br />planted with mangroves, dedicated seagrass-wetland <br />protection zones, secondary structural revetment <br />system, upland sea walls, bioswale stormwater areas, <br />and localized building protection.
