HBC Engineering Company | 110

Chun Li, PE
STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

structure. The upper deck superstructure consists of AASHTO Type III and IV beams placed transversely between the supporting edge
beams. The edge beams were designed for torsion. A portion of the upper deck was designed to accommodate a pedestrian walkway
crossing the upper deck. The upper deck going over the pedestrian walkway was supported by the post-tensioned concrete girders.
Bridge Design and Plans Preparation for Linton Blvd over the E3 and E3 1/2 Canals
CLIENT Palm Beach County Public Works | ROLE Structural Design Engineer
The project includes Structural Design Engineering and plans preparation services for the replacement of Linton Blvd Bridges over the
E4 and E3 1/2 Canals. Mr. Li served as Structure Design Engineer. The bridges are being replaced with transversely post-tensioned pre-
stressed slabs unit bridges. One bridge is a three span concrete slab structure while the other is comprised of only one span.
Bridge Design and Plans Preparation for the Gateway Blvd. Bridge over LWDD Canal
CLIENT Palm Beach County | ROLE Project Engineer
This project included engineering services for the bridge design and plans preparation for the Gateway Blvd. Bridge over LWDD Canal.
Provided the bridge design and plans preparation services for the replacement of the Gateway Blvd Bridge over the LWDD E-3 canal.
The bridge has six lanes with 3 span continuous concrete slab structures supported on pile bents. Coordination with the Lake Worth
Drainage District was required to ensure sufficient clearance was provided, and to obtain a permit.
C-7 Canal Lift Gate at Coconut Creek Parkway
CLIENT Broward County Office of Environmental Services | ROLE Project Engineer/Designer
Project Engineer/Designer for the provision of structural engineering design services for the installation of a lift gate and narrow platform
at the head wall of the culvert. The scope of work included the structural analysis and design for the seating of the gate and attachment,
including minor modifications to the headwall toe slab; structural analysis and design of the platform framing; and the preparation of the
construction plans for the installation of the pre-engineered lift gate and platform.
Miami International Airport Refurbishment of the Dolphin and Flamingo Parking Garages
CLIENT Miami-Dade County Aviation Department | ROLE Structural Engineer
Mr. Li conducted field inspections for damage assessment of the parking garages structures and prepared construction documents for
the execution of the repairs including procedures, costs, materials, phasing and specifications. The project also included the preparation
of a preventive concrete damages repair survey and recommended procedures and the upgrade of the life safety and
electrical/mechanical elements of the parking structure and the re-branding of the parking garages.
Venetian Bridge Replacement
CLIENT Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) I ROLE Structural Engineer
This $212 million project encompasses the replacement of 11 fixed bridges and one bascule bridge on the Venetian Causeway over the
Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW), which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). It also includes a temporary bridge.
The typical fixed-span bridges consist of prestressed arch beams that are simply supported and made continuous for live load and
superimposed dead load over three spans. To improve long-term performance, stainless steel prestressing strands and Fiber Reinforced
Polymer (FRP) reinforcement are used in the prestressed beams. The substructure incorporates non-redundant 4-foot-diameter drilled
shafts, stainless steel reinforcement in the end and interior bent caps, and FRP interface reinforcement between drilled shafts to enhance
structural performance and resist corrosion in an extremely aggressive marine environment.
