* Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Office of Planning, Statewide Pedestrian Safety
Improvement Program (PSIP)
As design phase lead, Rami directed a team of more than ten professionals to develop Ohio's inaugural Pedestrian
Safety Improvement Program, implementing improvements across 8 cities at 528 locations. He reviewed
applications, conducted desktop and field reviews, estimated construction costs, and guided cities on selecting
countermeasures including curb bump-outs, curb ramps, RRFBs, PHBs, signing and pavement marking, and
lighting, with many non-standard sites requiring innovative solutions.
Location: OH. Dates: 05/2020-1/2021.
* Pace Suburban Bus / Regional Transportation Authority, Transit Signal Priority Integration
Rami contributed to development of a regional Transit Signal Priority system, coordinating requirements for more
than 300 intersections across IDOT, Cook County, Lake County, and the City of Chicago. He performed traffic
signal design tasks, supported project management, and prepared documentation for the proof-of-concept and
implementation phases, helping advance the first interoperable TSP framework under the Regional Transportation
Authority.
Location: Chicago, IL. Dates: 4/2021-6/2024.
* Illinois Tollway, Tri-State Tollway Permanent Intelligent Transportation Design
Rami supported network and communications design for deployment of ITS equipment along the I-294
reconstruction and widening project. The work included development of a robust and redundant fiber backbone,
installation of permanent ITS elements such as Active Traffic Management, CCTV cameras, Dynamic Message
Signs, weather sensors, and Weigh-in-Motion stations, and coordination across multiple roadway design sections
under aggressive timeframes.
Location: Cook and DuPage Counties, IL. Dates: 4/2021-6/2024.
* Chicago Department of Transportation / Chicago Transit Authority, Ashland Avenue Interconnect
Rami supported traffic signal design for this modernization and fiber interconnect program combining Chicago
Department of Transportation and Chicago Transit Authority work along the Ashland Avenue corridor. The project
modernized 88 traffic signals, created a new fiber optic backbone for both agencies, and enabled Transit Signal
Priority operations; Rami contributed to the fiber network design, permitting plans, and TSP integration across the
corridor.
Location: Chicago, IL. Dates: 4/2021-Present.
* City of Wilmington, Downtown Pedestrian Safety Study
As a traffic engineer, Rami performed the safety analysis and report preparation for this downtown pedestrian
safety study aimed at improving motorist, pedestrian, and bicyclist safety and reducing crashes along US-68 and
Main Street. He provided client management and presented findings and countermeasures, and supported a
Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) application that secured $0.72 million for design and construction.
Recommendations included removing unwarranted signals, upgrading remaining signals, converting a signal to a
roundabout, improving signal visibility, and modifying signal phasing and lane channelization.
Location: Wilmington, OH. Dates: 05/2019-6/2020.
