Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting January 15,2015 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
10I. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Approving
an In-Kind Donation to the North Miami Beach Little League in an Estimated Amount of
$14,895.00 for Use of the Chief Fred Maas Baseball Field to Provide a Recreational Baseball
Program; Authorizing the City Manager To Do All Things Necessary to Effectuate this
Resolution; Providing for an Effective Date.
Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and Cultural and Community Services Director
Susan Simpson reported that the City tried to have a baseball program but we don't have
enough of a draw. North Miami Beach Little League runs an excellent program, and they
need more space because they have more children. We are proposing to let them use our
fields at no cost, and they provide a baseball program for our community.
Public Speakers: Mark Greenspan; Andre Cordova
Coach Mark Greenspan and Coach Andre Cordova along with Little League Team Members
presented the Commission with a Plaque in appreciation of the City's support. Coach Mark
Greenspan said that Little League is 100% voluntary, including our coaches, staff, and
umpires, and we couldn't do this without the support of the City. Additionally, we used to
put all the Sunny Isles Beach kids on one team but the kids are too good and now we have
two Sunny Isles Beach teams as well as other SIB kids spread amongst the other teams in
order to have fairness in the teams. We will give the teams that are predominately Sunny
Isles Beach residents, priority over the practice schedules on those fields. Coach Cordova
said they are very proud of the group that are in the picture on the plaque because they came
to him with no baseball experience, and they ended up working hard and were runner-up in
the Championships the first year!
Commissioner Aelion moved and Vice Mayor Gatto seconded a motion to approve the
resolution. Resolution No. 2015-2372 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor.
10J. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Ratifying an
In-Kind Donation to Chabad Russian Center of South Florida for Use of Bella Vista Bay
Park Parking Lot, Electric, Permit Fees, and City Support Personnel for their Ground
Breaking Ceremony on Sunday, January 11, 2015, in an Estimated Amount of$2,200.00;
Authorizing the City Manager To Do All Things Necessary to Effectuate this Resolution;
Providing for an Effective Date.
Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and Cultural and Community Services Director
Susan Simpson reported.
