Resolution No. 2015-2385 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor.
11. MOTIONS
None
12. DISCUSSION ITEMS
12A. Discussion regarding the City Advisory Committee (CAC).
Action: [City Clerk's Note: Item 12A was heard after Item 5A.] Mayor Scholl introduced
Chairperson Jeniffer Viscarra of the City Advisory Committee. She reported that they have
had one meeting so far this year. It was a very productive first meeting but there were some
issues that came up,mostly that we need some direction from the Commission. In reviewing
everything that has been done over the last couple of years, there are some things we intend
to keep doing. One of them is to continue the Condo Workshops that were very successful
and that member Howard Gordon intends to continue doing that. Also to continue the 40-
Year Inspection Forums. There are some buildings coming up for this, Winston Towers,
Plaza of the Americas, and other older buildings on the west side.
Chair Viscarra said they also want to invite the Department Heads to the meetings and she
remembers that at one of our meetings last year we had the Department Heads come and
introduce themselves and explain to the Committee what they do. It is important for them to
understand how the City functions and what everybody does as we are to be the liaison
between the community and the Commission, and so we would like to invite the Department
Heads to come back to a future meeting so they can understand what their role is. Going
forward for further understanding of the context, and she believes it is about context, we
can't just meet in a little room and discuss ideas in a vacuum,we have to understand not just
our buildings but the bigger issues.
Chair Viscarra said she had a meeting with City Manager Russo who had recommended that
they could take a bus tour to see the scope of the construction projects, the sand mitigation,
we don't all live on the beach and we don't all understand that there is sand missing,or sand
shifting,or turtles that prevent us from putting in boardwalks or other things that people may
come to us with these ideas but we may not be able to do that.
4
