BEAarchitects
Robert Draper, RASenior Architect
experience
Mr. Draper has worked for BEA while obtaining two degrees in architecture and working his way up
from CADD Technician to Job Captain. He has been involved in a myriad of projects at almost every
level and is heavily utilized for his construction document expertise.
Great Florida Bank, Miami-Dade County, FL. Mr. Draper worked on the design and construction
document phases of this design/build project, including interior design, of three branch banks in the
Miami metropolitan area (Doral, Coral Gables, Pinecrest). Square footage for all three branches totals
4900 with construction costs totaling $487,000. Mr. Draper also handled permitting, bidding, and
construction administration.
Cynthia Reed Art Gallery, Coral Gables, FL. Design and construction document phases, construction
administration, permitting and bidding for a design-build renovation of a 2-story, 8200 sf office into an art
gallery designed by BEA. The showroom features a central skylight which required removing structural
poles, so columns on the side were doubled in size. Twenty-one clear story windows totaling 360 sf
around the ceiling’s northern periphery contribute to the interior’s natural lighting. The clear story is
constructed of steal for structural support. The central elevator also was relocated. The roof is a heavy,
complex wood structure with enough steel connectors to withstand the strongest winds. The gallery
occupies the front lobby and second floor while rental space is provided in the rear of the first floor.
Maroone Nissan, Miami, FL. Mr. Draper worked in the construction documents phase for this $4
million, 40,000 sf compound which consists of different facilities—a two-story, 12,000 sf showroom; and
a 28,000 sf service center with a storage mezzanine—on two sites separated by a street. Architecturally,
the buildings share a modern vocabulary of precast concrete and smooth metal panels consistent with
Nissan’s national standards.
Bill Seidle Dealerships. Construction documents for complete A/E services for two dealerships.
Suzuki in Davie, FL: 11,000 sf, $1.2 million new facility including site improvements (Mr Draper also
handled permitting for this project). Nissan in Miami, FL: 5,000 sf 2nd-floor addition, $2.75 million.
POMTOC Gate Complex, Miami, FL. Design-build of a new cargo gate complex, including support
infrastructure, for over 120 acres of land for the Port of Miami. The project includes wireless
communications and video surveillance for the entire 120-acre terminal facility. The project increases the
Port of Miami Terminal Operating Company’s (POMTOC) number of daily gate moves from a maximum
of 1100 to 1800. The project includes a 16-lane high-tech gatehouse allowing all transactions to occur
at this remote facility. Fiberoptic raceways transfer data to and from the gatehouse and office complex.
In addition, four of the 16 lanes are designed to be reversible, allowing POMTOC the flexibility to rapidly
accommodate peak traffic flows. One hundred-foot-high radio antenna poles are located throughout
the 120 acres, transferring pickup and delivery information to the top-loader operators.
Cruise Terminals D & E, Port of Miami, FL. Mr. Draper worked in the design and construction document
phases as well as in permitting for new terminals that will serve as Carnival’s center of operations for its
Miami-based fleet. A focus of the twin terminals is the integration of advanced security measures into
the design. The design of the two buildings, totaling 230,000 square feet, is inspired by the openness
of airport hangars; that is, the large span structures are tension-supported with steel trusses and offer
extensive uninterrupted interior space with ocean views. Value-engineering analysis was applied
throughout the design phase in anticipation of a fast-track, phased construction schedule.
Cruise Terminals 3, 4 & 5, Port of Miami, FL. Construction documents for this $60 million revamping
of cruise terminals at the Port of Miami. He designed new facilities to accommodate two Legend
Class ships or two Eagle Class ships simultaneously. The plan called for a multiphased, two-year
construction operation.
registrations
Registered Architect:
Florida AR 96257
education
Bachelor of Architecture
Florida Atlantic University
2004
Bachelor of Architectural Design
Florida International University
2002
22 |
