The following is a list of selected project experience:
BROWARD COUNTY RAVENSWOOD BUS MAINTENANCE FACILITY, Fort Lauderdale, Florida
ACAI Associates was selected by Broward County, Florida to provide programming, design and construction
administration services for the replacement of facilities at the Ravenswood Bus Maintenance Facility. The 9 -acre site
was reconfigured, replacing the existing 1970's structures with new state -of- the -art facilities for current and future needs.
The facility accommodates up to 150 fleet vehicles including (130) 40 -foot buses and (20) 60 -foot articulated buses
along with staff and visitor parking, the majority of which provides by a new 268 - space multi -level parking garage.
The existing facilities replaced include: an operations building, an 11 -Bay bus maintenance building, a fueling and fare
retrieval facility, bus washing facility and surface parking. In addition, ancillary structures include: a sanitary lift station,
guard gate, a compressor building and other miscellaneous storage buildings. As part of Broward County's ongoing
efforts to provide more energy efficient, environmentally sustainable building, the new Ravenswood Maintenance
Facility will pursue a LEEDO Gold Certification.
NSU CENTER FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH (CCR), Davie, Florida
Located at Nova Southeastern University's Davie campus, the Center for Collaborative Research (CCR) is a state -of-
the -art, cooperative interdisciplinary center for medical, pharmaceutical, dental and oceanographic research. The
216,000 square foot building includes a six level 1,250 car parking garage, providing additional student parking and
parking for the CCR staff. The CCR houses one of the largest wet -lab research facilities in Florida. The wet lab is a
home base for applied health care research and medical informatics. Researchers collaborate within this advanced
environment to investigate pharmaceutical synthesis, cancer therapy, human stem cell research, biomaterials, wildlife
DNA forensics, and ocean biomaterials. Our design incorporates bio- medical labs, tissue culture suites, microscopy
facilities, and small animal vivariums with ABSL -2 suites and surgical suites. The CCR is home to the Rumbaugh-
Goodwin Institute for Cancer Research; investigators from the Health Professions Division and Oceanographic Center;
and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The federal agency is partnering with NSU, Florida Atlantic University and
the University of Florida to promote scientific cooperation for the Greater Everglades Restoration Project. In addition,
the CCR project is linked to the Florida LambdaRail (Florida's Research and Education Network - operating a statewide
high performance fiber -optic network infrastructure linking Florida's research institutions worldwide). The CCR building
also incorporates all of the latest modern educational technology while blending in the Mediterranean Architecture of
the surrounding Academical Village. Our design will follow NIH guidelines, Guide for Care and use of Lab Animals,
AAALAC standards, and the National Research Council.
