BROWARD COLLEGE SIMULATION LAB, Davie, Florida
ACAI has been selected by Broward College to design a building which includes seven state -of- the -art simulation labs
each of which are equipped with human patient simulators and bedside computers; specialized hospital equipment
specific to the function of each lab; internet access; digitalized video; recording cameras and TV monitors. The labs
are designed to replicate realistic practice settings and has an EMS ambulance bay, and Emergency Department,
Critical Care units, Medical- Surgical unit, Trauma /Operating /Dental Room, a Labor and Delivery/Neonatal Intensive
Care /Pediatric unit; and open lab space to conduct large clinical drills, as well as debriefing rooms, storage space, and
video recording control rooms. Each patient care unit accommodates 6 students and an instructor, and have an adjoin-
ing control room and storage. ACAI was approved for the Programming of the project, which consisted of preparing
the educational program to serve as the basis of design for the educational facilities and site improvements. The
program included every space, its intended use, capacity, additional requirements, such as equipment, furniture, and
special needs of Broward College. This scope required meetings with the Owner to gather and review information for
the program.
NSU CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR CORAL REEF ECOSYSTEMS SCIENCE RESEARCH FACILITY
Hollywood, Florida
The new Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Ecosystems Science Research Facility is a signature, state of the art,
facility of approximately 86,000 square feet. The design, which was provided by ACAI and Cannon, promotes research
by faculty, researchers, visiting scientists, post - doctoral fellows, and graduate students through careful attention to
functionality, safety, physical, environmental, and experimental /research needs, together with controls and operational
considerations. The proposed COE CRES facility was designed to meet LEEDO Silver certification from the United
States Green Building Council (USGBC). The project is partially funded by a $15 million National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST) Grant provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) that is being
match by NSU.
SFWMD ENVIRONMENTAL LAB, West Palm Beach, Florida
ACAI was commissioned under the prime contractor for Architectural services including Facility Programming, Site Plan
Design, and Architectural Plans for the South Florida Water Management District Environmental Laboratory project.
This project involved design and development of a new facility based upon the final site plan selected by the District's
Basis of Design Report (BODR), preliminary plans as well as complying with the Districts Standards.
NSU STUDENT EDUCATION CENTERS, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
The Nova Southeastern University Student Education Centers create an on- campus atmosphere while serving stu-
dents from all areas off of the main campus. The Centers have established high quality and efficient services and staff
that enable students to finish their degrees successfully, as well as provide students with an experience that contributes
to their personal and professional development. NSU's West Palm Beach campus is a 60,000 sf facility which houses
offices, classrooms and lab spaces and includes a 7,321 sf College of Pharmacy comprised of pharmaceutics labs,
pharmacy practice labs and support areas. ACAI provided architecture, space planning studies, engineering and con-
struction administration services for this project.
