Afro - Caribbean Style Architecture is Re- Vamped and Made Sustainable for Miami Park
............................................................................................................. ...............................
UlflIffull C fl; 11 in
The project is constructed on 14 acres of publicly owned land. The 8,211- square -foot recreational facility serves
approximately 1,500 park visitors at peak times and an average of 1o8 children and adults daily. The park site is
located at 13th Street and NorthwestThird Avenue within the Overtown Neighborhood area in Miami, Florida.
The owner selected this site because it is easily accessible to the community and county visitors by public
transportation and is in close proximityto expressways for patrons who visit by car. The pedestrian - friendly site
design encourages local patrons to walk or ride a bike to the park. The park also can be used by students from
the adjacent public school.
f:.
SUSTAIIIABLE DEVELOPMENT ATTRIBUTES
Design Goals + Sustainable Strategies
The design responds directly to the following goals:
*Create a community- and family - friendly park.
•Provide spaces for youth to be outdoors enjoying
healthy activities.
-Provide public spaces that draw users to the
facility and provide visual contact with street users.
•Retain the cultural identity of the neighborhood
and its "main street " — Northwest Third Avenue.
*Provide open space for community and family
gatherings.
PROJECT DETAILS
Owner: City of Miami Parks and Recreation
Size: 407,350 s.f.
