<br />The Taos County Government Center is located on a
<br />10.6 acre property in a developing area of Taos, New
<br />Mexico. Consisting of three linked two story buildings
<br />organized around a central courtyard, the complex
<br />includes approximately 162,000 SF housing the
<br />administrative, courts, and detention components of
<br />the County government. The complex is designed to
<br />reflect the unique regional traditions of the American
<br />Southwest through the careful use of the building
<br />massing and materials. The complex is designed
<br />to reflect the pueblo and territorial architectural
<br />traditions of New Mexico through the use of portales,
<br />bancos, corbels, courtyards, landscaping, and
<br />appropriate exterior detailing.
<br />The 37,040 SF county administrative building will
<br />include the County Commission chambers, as well
<br />as the Administrative Service Departments (County
<br />Manager, Finance, I.T, H.R., Legal, DWI, General
<br />Services, and Planning) , and the Elected Officials
<br />Departments (Assessor, Clerk, Treasurer, and Probate
<br />Judge) departments.
<br />The 42,109 SF courthouse building accommodates
<br />five courtrooms, judicial chambers, the Clerk of
<br />Court, and court support spaces. The new district
<br />courthouse consists of the district court, district
<br />court administration and clerk, the district attorney,
<br />and other related users. Also, being designed and
<br />built as part of the district courthouse are 12,771 SF
<br />of space for the Magistrate Court. This court, now
<br />housed in rental space on the south side of Taos, will
<br />lease the space from the county.
<br />The 33,040 SF county detention center will house
<br />110 inmates, 92 adults and 18 juveniles in single or
<br />double cells in a safe and secure environment. The
<br />adult group consists of 80 males and 12 females.
<br />The juvenile group will accommodate 12 males and 6
<br />females. Both groups will be separated by sight and
<br />sound, a requirement for youthful offenders in the
<br />state of New Mexico. Included in the new detention
<br />center will be an enclosed sally-port, an intake and
<br />release area, a medical zone, a kitchen and laundry
<br />zone, a non-contact visiting area for the inmates, and
<br />indoor and outdoor recreation areas.
