21THE WEITZ COMPANY // GOVERNMENT CENTER ANNEX, RFQ NO. 15-08-02 / CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FL
SECTION F // RELATED EXPERIENCE
The Weitz Company has built an extensive portfolio of
government, education, and community-related work
in South Florida—including the original Sunny Isles
Beach Government Center, completed in 2005. As
Construction Manager, Weitz provided 12 months of preconstruction services
to assure all cost, schedule and quality items achieved the desired result. We
created implementation plans to solve logistical challenges, such as building
in the restricted space between Collins Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard. We
learned the City’s systems and operations, and in the end, Weitz completed
this award-winning building three months ahead of the contracted schedule.
Thus began a relationship with the City that later resulted in Weitz’s
management of another very visible public project—Gateway Park, which is
now nearing completion.
PROVEN RESULTS ON SIMILAR PROJECTS
Since building your original Government Center, Weitz has successfuly
completed many other government and educational facilities with similar
project scope. Roughly half of our backlog at any one time consists of public
projects, such as the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus Parking Garage
and the State of Florida 4th District Court of Appeal courthouse in West
Palm Beach. We have built education facilities at Palm Beach International
University, Florida Institute of Technology, and the University of North Florida
as well as for Broward and Palm Beach County public school districts. And
we are known for our success at two highly visible research institutes that
arrived in South Florida over the past decade: The Scripps Florida Research
Institute and Max Planck Florida Institute.
QUALITY WORKMANSHIP = REPEAT CLIENTS
Weitz has a reputation for building quality projects and standing by our work
long after the warranty period. That is how we have developed relationships
with so many repeat clients. Here is a sample:
Broward County: Serving as Owner’s Representative on the new County
Courthouse for the past five years, and just selected as the County’s
Representative for the Convention Center Expansion and Hotel.
Palm Beach County: 27 projects over the past 12 years
Palm Beach Atlantic University: Five projects
Florida Institute of Technology: Two projects in a 4-year span
The Breakers Palm Beach: More than 90 projects; Weitz has been this
prestigious hotel’s on-site Design-Build vendor for the past 23 years.
RELATED EXPERIENCE
UNF College of Science and Engineering
Palm Beach Atlantic University -
Warren Library
Engineering News-Record magazine voted
the Scripps Florida project “Best of the Best”
for Higher Education/Research in 2009.
