4
the current comprehensive planning online survey does not include a question regarding
cultural life, this planning process will help facilitate input of an arts and culture master plan
into the overall updated comprehensive plan.
Purpose Statement for Master Arts and Culture Plan

With a commitment to set forth a collective vision for cultural enrichment and
development, the City has partnered with the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation to undertake the
development of an arts and culture master plan. This partnership has determined that in order
to provide the best possible arts and cultural life for Sunny Isle Beach it is critical to have a long-‐
term strategy for this sector integrated across civic life. The purpose of this planning process is
to help strengthen and integrate the community by supporting and raising the profile of
cultural activities through long range, systemic planning.
In particular, the City sees its arts and culture sector providing a vehicle for:
a) preserving, celebrating, challenging and inventing community identity
b) engaging participation in civic life
c) informing, educating, and learning from diverse audiences
d) communicating across demographic and socioeconomic lines.
Integrating the resources of the City and the Sunny Isle Beach Foundation with this
planning process will lay the groundwork for a vibrant, exciting and engaging cultural life long
into the future.
