SUMMARY MINUTES City of Sunny Isles Beach Historic Preservation Board Meeting 18070 Collins Avenue, First Floor Meeting Room Thursday, February 17, 2011, 7:00 p.m. 1. Call to Order by Chairperson: Action: Vice Chairperson Cassey Gabor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.,and welcomed our newest Board Member Warren Stamm. Each member introduced themselves. Hines, CMC City Liaison: Guests: Richard C. Schulman, City Historian Former City Commissioner Roslyn Brezin Interested Parties 2. Approval of Minutes: June 22, 2010 Historic Preservation Board Meeting. Action: Joe Masters moved and Shari Blank seconded a motion to approve the June 22,2010 Board meeting summary minutes. The motion was approved by a voice vote of 7-0 in favor. 3A.Update/Report on the Reconstruction, Design, and Permitting of the Sunny Isles Beach/Newport Pier. Action: Acting City Manager Jorge Vera reported on the historic Pier noting that we are in the process of mobilization for demolition which will begin next week. The demolition needs to be completed by April 1, 2011 as turtle season begins in April and ends in November. Prior to finishing the demolition on the Pier,we should have the Permit to construct the Pier and we will be able to start that construction on the seaside coming in towards the landside. On the landside we cannot do anything until November due to turtle season. In November we will start putting in the piles and finishing up the slab of the Pier, and then hopefully we will have everything completed by April 2012 with the 5,000 square foot restaurant on top of it. We are trying to get permission from DEP to allow us to do some work during turtle season as long as we are not hitting the sand and not disturbing the turtles. If we get that, we can finish by April 2012, and have this Pier open for the City's 15`h Birthday Celebration. Acting City Manager Vera responded to questions posed by the Board. Currently we are finalizing DEP requirements in order to secure a Permit for construction as we must be in compliance with noise and lighting regulations for the turtles. We should have that by next month, and then we can start construction in April. Everything has been cleared by the Army Agenda 2011-0217 HPB Mtg Page 1 of 4
