Balled and Burlapped Plants: <br />1. Balls shall be firmly wrapped with burlap or accepted cloth substitute. <br />2. No balled plant will be acceptable if the ball is cracked and broken or if the stem or trunk is <br />loose in the ball, either before or during transplanting. <br />3. Balled plants shall be lifted and handled from the bottom of the ball. <br />4. Transport plant material on vehicles of adequate size to prevent overcrowding, broken limbs, <br />foliage damage or root damage. <br />5. Root ball and foliage shall be kept moist during all phases of relocation. <br />6. Protect ball and deliver to the site, plant immediately, and water thoroughly. <br /> <br />D. Root Ball Size Chart: Refer to Section 3.1 Root Pruning for minimum root ball sizes. <br /> <br />3.03 <br /> <br />PLANTING: <br />A. Relocated Material: <br />1. Relocated trees/palms shall be planted according to procedures described for new material, Section <br />02950. Verify final grades have been established before planting operations. Ensure proposed planting <br />pits drain by test-filling with water before transplantation. <br />2. Setting of Plants: All trees shall be centered in the hole as indicated in section 02950. During <br />backfilling, a hose with water running at a slow rate shall be used to "puddle in" the soil. Rod-in the <br />water-soil mix to assure that all air pockets are eliminated. If tree settles, Contractor must reset to <br />proper level. <br />3. Brace designated material according to procedures described for new plant materials, Section 02950. <br />4. Placement of Mulch: A 4" layer of mulch shall be placed around the base of the trees but not touching <br />the tree trunk. Trees shall have a blanket of mulch that covers the area of the planting pit. Where trees <br />are planted in masses, the total area below the tree group shall be mulched. <br />5. Feed with a diluted solution of N-P-K in solution form with a soil needle, providing water, air, and <br />nutrients. <br /> <br />3.04 <br /> <br />WATERING: <br />A. Provide manual watering of relocated plant materials for 90 days. If used, after watering period, Contractor <br />shall be responsible for the complete removal of all temporary watering systems. <br /> <br />B. Following relocation, water trees daily for the first two weeks, every other day for the next three weeks, and <br />every third day for the balance of the three-month watering/maintenance period. Such watering shall <br />thoroughly saturate the root ball to its full depth. <br /> <br />C. For canopy trees that larger than 20' a temporary over head irrigation shall be installed as follows: <br />1. Each tree shall have a sprinkler head installed above the canopy using flexible tubing. Tubing can be <br />attached to trees with flex ties. Contractor shall submit shop drawings prior to beginning work. <br /> <br />3.05 <br /> <br />CLEANING: <br />A. Cleaning up the Site: <br />1. Upon completion of the work, thoroughly clean up the project site. <br />2. In addition to removing equipment, unused materials, deleterious material, and surplus excavated <br />material, the Contractor shall fine grade all disturbed areas and the areas adjacent to the <br />transplanted material to provide a neat and uniform site. <br />3. All damaged or altered existing structures, as a result of the landscape work, shall be corrected. <br /> END OF SECTION
