Samson Oceanfront Park <br />City of Sunny Isles <br />Technical Specifications <br /> <br />TREE AND PLANT PROTECTION 02931-3 <br />depth of 6 inches within dripline radius around tree to reduce compaction and increase <br />moisture retention. Mulch depth shall be feathered to grade at base of trunk. Remove <br />protection mulch after completion of work as specified. <br /> <br />E. Excavation within Tree Protection Area: <br />1. Do not excavate within drip line of trees to remain unless otherwise indicated. <br />2. Where excavation for any construction is required within drip line of trees, hand clear <br />and excavate to minimize damage to root systems. Use narrow-tine spading forks, comb <br />soil to expose roots and clearly cut roots as close to excavation as possible. <br />3. Cover exposed roots with burlap and water regularly. <br />4. Backfill with soil as soon as possible. <br /> <br />F. Fertilization and Insect Spraying: <br />1. Treat root pruned and construction pruned trees with liquid fertilizer, dormant oil spray, <br />and insecticide. <br />2. Liquid fertilizer shall be applied at a rate recommended by the manufacturer and as <br />required by NAA Ref.2. <br />3. Apply dormant oil spray, at a rate recommended by the manufacturer, in early spring <br />before buds begin to swell. <br />4. Apply insecticide spray twice to root pruned trees following application of dormant oil <br />spray. Spray insecticide at rates recommended by spray manufacturer at intervals <br />appropriate for effective insect control. <br /> <br />G. Clearing Within Protection Areas: <br />1. Selective clearing within tree protection areas shall only be performed when and as <br />directed by A/E. <br /> <br />H. Removal of Protection: <br />1. Except as otherwise indicated or requested by A/E, temporary protection devices and <br />facilities installed during course of the work shall be removed only after all work that <br />may injure or damage trees and plants is completed. <br /> <br /> <br /> END OF SECTION <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
