Samson Oceanfront Park <br />City of Sunny Isles <br />Technical Specifications <br />TREES, PLANTS AND GROUNDCOVER 02950-7 <br /> <br /> 1. Canes or Trunk(s) and Branches: <br /> a. Very well formed and sturdy. <br /> b. Branching plentiful and uniformly distributed to form a well <br />balanced plant. <br /> c. Scars shall be free from rot and shall not exceed 1/4 the diameter of <br />the wood beneath in greatest dimension unless completely healed <br />(except pruning scars). <br /> d. Pruning scars shall be clean cut leaving little or no protrusion from <br />the trunk or branch. <br /> e. Graft union completely healed. <br /> f. No mechanical or pest damage. <br /> g. No extreme succulence. <br /> <br /> 2. Foliage <br /> a. Densely supplied with healthy, vigorous leaves of normal size, color, <br />and texture. <br /> b. No holes, cavities, or depressed areas caused by broken or dead <br />branches or insufficient foliage. <br /> c. No chlorosis. <br /> d. No more than 5% of total foliage affected by pest or mechanical damage. <br /> <br /> 3. Root system: <br /> a. Sturdily established in container. <br /> b. Shall not be rootbound except plants deliberately grown rootbound to produce a <br />dwarf plant or bonsai. <br /> c. No large roots growing out of containers. <br /> <br />2.02 <br /> <br /> A. Sand: sand shall be a well-washed, medium to coarse grade sand free of silt and sludge. Cyclone <br />or builder’s sand is not acceptable. <br /> <br /> B. Muck: Peat shall be peat material removed from areas marked "Florida Everglades Peat" on Soil <br />Conservation Service Soils Maps. Muck shall be suitable for plant growth, capable of sustaining <br />vigorous plant growth, and specifically pulverized for agricultural use. Florida peat shall be free of <br />deleterious materials that would be harmful to plant growth, shall be free of nematodes, shall be <br />uniform in quality, and shall have a pH of between 5.5 and 6.5 as determined by ASTM E70. <br />Muck shall be sterilized to make it free of all viable nut grasses and other undesirable weeds. <br /> <br />SOIL MATERIALS: <br />2.03 <br /> <br /> A Planting soil shall be a mixture of 60% sand and 40% muck, by volume, except for palms, which <br />shall be a mixture of 80% sand and 20% muck by volume. <br /> <br />B. Before planting materials are installed, test planting soil and amend planting soil as recommended <br />by the Testing Laboratory such that planting soil pH falls within the range of 6.5 to 7.5 ph and <br />have an Infiltration Rate (K-sat) of 8-16 inches/hour. <br /> <br />PLANTING SOIL: <br />2.04 <br /> <br />BIOSTIMULANTS: <br /> A. Biostimulants shall be Die Hard Transplant by Horticultural Alliance (800)628-6373 or approved <br />equal and shall contain miccorhizal fungi and water absorbing polymers. <br /> 1. Proportions: Planting soil shall be amended by the addition of Biostimulants in <br />accordance with the amounts recommended by the manufacturer. <br />
