SAMSON OCEANFRONT PARK <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES <br />TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS <br /> <br />CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT 03200-4 <br /> <br />E. Couplers which are located at a joint face shall be a type which can be set either flush or recessed from <br />the face as indicated. The couplers shall be sealed during concrete placement to completely eliminate <br />concrete or cement paste from entering. Couplers intended for future connections shall be recessed a <br />minimum of 1/2 inch from the concrete surface. After the concrete is placed, the coupler shall be <br />plugged with plastic plugs which have an O-ring seal and the recess filled with sealant to prevent any <br />contact with water or other corrosive materials. Threaded couplers shall be plugged. <br />3.04 CLEANING AND PROTECTION <br />A. Unless indicated otherwise, mechanical coupler spacing and capacity shall match the spacing and <br />capacity of the reinforcing indicated for the adjacent section. <br />B. Reinforcement shall be free of all materials that will reduce bond. <br />C. Reinforcement steel shall at all times be protected from conditions conducive to corrosion until <br />concrete is placed around it. <br />D. The surfaces of reinforcement steel and other metalwork to be in contact with concrete shall be <br />thoroughly cleaned of all dirt, grease, loose scale and rust, grout, mortar, and other foreign substances <br />immediately before the concrete is placed. Where there is delay in depositing concrete, reinforcement <br />shall be re-inspected and, if necessary, re-cleaned or sandblasted. <br />E. Properly cap all vertical reinforcement steel if area is subject to having workers above the <br />reinforcement area. <br /> <br /> <br />END OF SECTION
