SAMSON OCEANFRONT PARK <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES <br />TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS <br />MORTAR 040516-2 <br /> <br />C. Mock-Up: Before starting exterior masonry work, construct sample panel, minimum "48" (1.2 m) L x 48" <br />(1.2 ill) H in size, incorporating typical back-up construction and all components of the masonry wall <br />system. Architect shall review panel for acceptability before actual work begins. <br /> <br />1.06 <br /> <br />DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING: <br />A. Mortar materials shall be delivered, stored, and handled to prevent damage, deterioration, or <br />contamination. Mortar materials shall be stored under cover in a dry place and in original packaging. Do <br />not place mortar materials directly on the ground or any floor slab. <br /> <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br /> <br />2.01 MANUFACTURERS: <br /> <br /> <br />A. Subject to full compliance with all requirements, the following manufacturers offer products that may be <br />incorporated into the work: <br />1. Masonry Cement: <br />a. Holcim, Inc. (formerly Holnam, Inc.) <br />b. Lehigh Portland Cement Co. <br />c. Quikrete Co. <br />d. Southdown, Inc. <br />e. Southern Grouts and Mortars, Inc. <br />2. Integral Masonry Mortar Water-Repellant: <br />a. Addiment, Inc. -Mortar Tite <br />b. Grace Construction Products -Dry Block Mortar Admixture <br />c. Master Builders, Inc. -Rheopel Mortar Admixture <br />d. Sonneborn, ChemRex, Inc. -Hydrocide Powder <br />2.02 <br /> <br />MATERIALS: <br />A. Water: Clean, potable and free of deleterious materials, complying with ASTM C94 <br /> <br />B. Portland Cement: ASTM C150, normal, Type I <br /> <br />C. Masonry Cement ASTM C91, Type II <br /> <br />D. Hydrated Lime: ASTM C207, Type "S" or "M" <br /> <br />E. Mortar for Unit Masonry: ASTM C270, Type "N" for above grade, Type "S" for below grade unless <br />specified otherwise on Structural Drawings <br /> <br />F. Sand: ASTM: C144, Aggregate for Masonry Mortar <br /> <br />G. Grout: ASTM C404, Aggregate for Masonry Grout <br /> <br />H. Waterproofing Admixture" Provide a waterproofing admixture that is mixed with the masonry mortar to <br />reduce the water absorption characteristics of the mortar. Acceptable products include Sonneborn <br />"Hydrocide Powder"; Master Builders "OM" or AC Horn "Hydrate Plus"; W.R. Grace "Dry-Block". <br />1. Admixture shall not reduce flexural bond strength when added to mortar mix as tested <br />following ASTM C1357. <br />2. Reduction of mortar compressive strength shall not exceed 5% when tested according to <br />ASTM C1314. <br />3. A maximum of 5% increase in dry shrinkage shall occur upon use of admixture when tested <br />according to ASTM CI 148. <br /> <br />I. Block Mortar Color: Natural Color/Standard Gray
