The CONTRACTOR shall place limerock aggregate in conformance with Section 200 “Rock <br />Base” of the Florida Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge <br />Construction and as follows: <br /> <br />B. Preparation of Subgrade: The CONTRACTOR shall prepare the subgrade In accordance with the <br />requirements of Section 200 and as follows: <br /> <br />1. Clean of all foreign substances. <br /> <br />2. Correct any ruts or soft yielding spots or any areas with inadequate compaction. <br /> <br />3. ENGINEER may inspect for adequate compaction and surface tolerances. <br /> <br />C. Grade Control: The CONTRACTOR shall establish and maintain grade control by means of <br />grade stakes placed in lanes parallel to the centerline of the area to be paved. The grade stakes <br />shall be spaced so string lines may be stretched between stakes. <br /> <br />D. Smoothness Test: The surface shall be subject to a smoothness test. The CONTRACTOR shall be <br />required to rework the base as required to achieve passing results. The surface shall show no <br />deviation in excess of ⅜” in any ten feet when tested with a ten -foot straightedge applied parallel <br />with and at right angles to the centerlines of the paved area. If greater than the stated allowable <br />tolerance is detected, the CONTRACTOR shall correct any deviation in excess of the stated <br />amount by loosening, adding or removing material, reshaping, watering, and compacting as <br />required by the ENGINEER. <br /> <br />END OF SECTION
