Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting October 15.2015 City of Sunny Isles Beach.Florida
12. DISCUSSION ITEMS
12A. Discussion regarding Activities of the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation.
Action: [City Clerk's Note: Item 12A was heard after Item 9C. A revised report was
distributed prior to the meeting.] Vice Mayor Gatto recognized in the audience former
Mayor Norman S. Edelcup and Lynn M. Dannheisser,Executive Director,of the Sunny Isles
Beach Foundation. She reported on the Art Wall located at the west side of 18090-18230
Collins Avenue RK Shopping Center across from the Norman S. Edelcup K-8 School. There
is a juried Youth Mural Art Wall competition going on for students to submit original
artwork. She noted March Music Month where there will be several free concerts available
to the public at Heritage Park, and hopefully March Music Month will become an annual
event. She reported on the response we received as a result of issuing an RFP for the
Cultural Master Plan and that the City Manager will provide the recommendations and
perhaps have it on the agenda for the November Commission meeting. She reported on the
501(c)(3) Filing application and noted we are waiting on a response from the IRS. Other
Projects include participation in the sponsorship of the City's Jazz Festival, and the
Foundation is considering Shakespeare in the Park as a regular event, and consideration of
adding LED lighting in numerous public places in the City. The Foundation is putting most
programming on hold until we have a clearer vision of roles and the market, due to the
Cultural Master Plan process.
Commissioner Levin said she likes the Shakespeare in the Park idea, and Executive Director
Lynn Dannheisser said it will be held in February. Commissioner Aelion said being that the
Foundation is culturally missioned, he was surprised to hear about the LED lighting. If
nothing, it is probably an economic thrust of any City government to have in any public
spaces, and so he does not know if the Foundation would pursue that unless they want to
donate funds for the City. Ms. Dannheisser said she thinks Commissioner Aelion is thinking
that LED lighting is the cost saving environmental lighting that you probably are
undertaking. We are talking about the kind that you see when you go over the bridge io the
Port of Miami, the colorful bridges, for decorative uses, a visual artistic thing.
[City Clerk's Note: Item 10A was heard after Item 12A and the remainder of the Agenda
was heard in order.]
13. CITIZENS' FORUM: REQUESTS, PETITIONS & OTHER COMMUNICATIONS
13A.
