Packaging shall be labeled according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Federal <br />Seed Act and shall be furnished in containers with tags showing seed mixture, purity, <br />germination, weed content, name of seller, and date on which seed was tested. <br />1. Seed Mixtures: Meet the following minimum percentage requirements for <br />purity and germination: <br /> Pounds per 100 lbs <br />Seed Name Purity Germination of mixture <br />Argentine Bahia 95 80 70 <br />Brown Top Millet 90 85 30 <br />2. Moldy seed or seed that has been damaged in storage will not be accepted. <br />3. When seasonal conditions mandate, substitute a winter grass such as rye <br />grass for the brown top millet. <br />2.06 The CONTRACTOR shall provide sod as shown on the drawings and specified herein. <br />A. Provide Argentine Bahia grass sod containing a minimum of 95 percent pure from a <br />certified sod farm that grows its sod on sandy soil. <br />B. Sod shall be strongly rooted, free of pernicious weeds, mowed to a height of three <br />inches before lifting, delivered to the site in strips 12 inches wide at least three feet <br />long, rolled, and a uniform thickness of one and a quarter inch including three <br />quarters inch thick layer of roots and topsoil. <br />2.07 PLANTING SOIL: <br />A. General Type: The CONTRACTOR shall plant all new transplanted plant material <br />(other than sod) with the general type planting soil, unless otherwise stated. The <br />planting soil shall be a sandy loam (50 percent sand and 50 percent Everglades <br />peat), by volume. The soil shall be thoroughly mixed and delivered in a loose, friable <br />condition. The sand shall be well-washed lawn sand, free of silt and sludge. <br />“Cyclone” sand is not acceptable. The planting soil pH shall range between 6.5 and <br />7.2. <br />B. Soil for Backfilling Root-Pruning Trenches: The CONTRACTOR shall backfill root- <br />pruning trenches with a soil mixture consisting of by volume of 70 percent planting <br />soil as described in 2.05A above and 30 percent mulch with 0-0-20 fertilizer added at <br />a rate of 1/3 pound per cubic yard of soil, thoroughly mixed prior to backfilling. <br />C. The CONTRACTOR shall submit sample of sand and muck separately and/or soil <br />analysis (es) if requested and as needed. <br />2.08 MULCH: <br />A. The CONTRACTOR shall mulch all new and transplanted plant materials and <br />associated planting beds (other than sod areas) with mulch at the time of installation, <br />final acceptance, and at the end of the guarantee period UNLESS OTHERWISE <br />STATED. The mulch layer shall exceed a depth of two inches within a one-foot <br />radius of the plant materials or exceed a depth of four inches in areas beyond the <br />one-foot radius. All mulch material shall be grade “A” Recycled Mulch approved by <br />the ENGINEER. It shall be uniformly shredded and free from foreign matter, large <br />pieces of bark, tree stump material, and insects such as burrowing nematodes and <br />ants. Submit sample of mulch if requested and as needed at no additional cost to <br />the CITY.
