<br />02480 - 7/12 <br />2.12 TREE PROTECTION BARRICADES: <br />A. The CONTRACTOR shall provide tree protection barricades as required. <br />2.13 INSPECTIONS: <br />A. Inspection at the growing site does not preclude the right of rejection at the project <br />site. <br />B. The CONTRACTOR shall request inspections in writing at least 48 hours in advance. <br />C. In the event the ENGINEER has made an early inspection shall not bar the <br />ENGINEER from subsequently rejecting such work that is discovered to be faulty <br />work or work omitted or work performed which is not in accordance with the contract <br />requirements. <br />D. Die-Back and Leaf-Drop: Plant material showing signs of die-back or leaf-drop will <br />not be accepted and must be removed from the project immediately if so directed by <br />the ENGINEER. Any plant material with tendencies toward leaf-drop or die-back <br />must be root pruned early enough to provide a sound network of hair roots prior to <br />relocation. <br />E. Mechanical Destruction of Foliage: Mechanical destruction of foliage resulting from <br />root pruning shall not affect more than 10 percent of the total foliage prior to planting <br />on the project. Loss of foliage caused by seasonal change will be accepted. <br />F. Spanish Moss: If Spanish Moss (Tillandsia useoides) exists on plant material, it shall <br />be completely removed prior to planting on the project. <br />G. Palms: The CONTRACTOR shall comply with the following with regards to palms. <br />1. Before Transporting: See Paragraph 2.13, Delivery, Handling, Storage and <br />Submittals for requirements related to wrapping of root balls. <br />2. Prepare Cabbage Palms by pruning in a hurricane cut and remove a maximum <br />of fronds from the crown without damage or exposure to the central bud to <br />facilitate transporting and handling. <br />3. Palms with burn marks and frond boots on trunk will not be accepted unless <br />noted on Plans. <br />4. Tying shall be as set forth in the latest edition of the Florida Department of <br />Consumer Services' manual “Grades and Standards for Nursery Plants”. Tying <br />of other palms shall be at the option of the CONTRACTOR. <br />5. To reduce head volume, palm fronds may be taper trimmed by not more than <br />one-third. <br />6. Palms showing cable or chain marks and equipment scars shall be rejected. <br />H. Chlorosis: The allowable level of Chlorosis in foliage shall be set forth in the latest <br />edition of the Florida Department of Consumer Services' manual, “Grades and <br />Standards for Nursery Plants”. <br />I. Plant material shall not be accepted when the ball of earth surrounding its roots has <br />been cracked, broken, or otherwise damaged. <br />J. The CONTRACTOR shall, when necessary, perform root pruning of plant material <br />conforming to guidelines provided by an arborist or certified landscape professional <br />to ensure the health, stability and longevity of the plant material. Prior to root <br />pruning, the CONTRACTOR shall give 48 hour advance notice to the ENGINEER
