This shall allow for any <br />inspections during or after the root pruning, if necessary. <br />2.14 DELIVERY, HANDLING, STORAGE AND SUBMITTALS: <br />A. Delivery and Handling: The CONTRACTOR shall comply with the following <br />regarding delivery, handling, and storage of planting materials. <br />1. Movement of nursery stock shall comply with all Federal, State, and local laws, <br />regulations, ordinances, codes, etc. <br />2. The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for protecting plant material from <br />adverse environmental conditions including drying and sunburn during all <br />phases of delivery and storage. Further, the CONTRACTOR shall be <br />responsible for protecting plant material from any damage, theft, or <br />deterioration of health or appearance during all phases of delivery and storage. <br />3. The CONTRACTOR shall wire wrap burlap if root ball is not sufficiently <br />compacted. Palms will not require burlap wrapping if the following <br />requirements are met: <br />a. The Palm is dug from marl or heavy soil that adheres to roots and retains <br />shape without shattering. <br />b. Moistened material is used to cover root ball and not exposed to wind or <br />allowed to dry out. <br />c. The palm is planted within 24 hours after being dug. <br />d. Palms are stored in shade and protected from weather. <br />e. Maintain and protect plant material that will not be planted within four <br />hours of delivery. <br />4. Transport materials on vehicles large enough to allow plants not be crowded <br />and damaged. Plants shall be covered to prevent wind damage during transit. <br />5. Protect plant material during shipping to prevent damage to the root system <br />and desiccation of leaves. Trees shall be protected during shipping by tying in <br />the branches and covering all exposed branches as necessary. Do not bend <br />or bind-tie plant material in such a manner as to damage bark, break branches, <br />or alter the natural shape. <br />6. The CONTRACTOR shall exercise care in handling, loading, unloading, <br />storing, and transporting all material to prevent damage. The CONTRACTOR <br />shall assume full responsibility for protection and safekeeping of materials. <br />2.15 DAMAGE TO EXISTING VEGETATION AND/OR IRRIGATION: <br />A. The CONTRACTOR shall exercise caution when working in the vicinity of existing <br />vegetation and/or irrigation system components to prevent damage caused by the <br />use of tools or equipment (mechanical), chemicals, grade changes, and excavation. <br />B. If the CONTRACTOR damages existing plants and/or vegetation due to his own <br />negligence, he shall be responsible to replace them at his cost, within seven <br />calendar days. <br />C. If tree damage results when the CONTRACTOR employed the appropriate <br />preventive measures, those damages may, at the discretion of the ENGINEER, be <br />rectified by pruning in conformance with the “American National Standards Institute <br />(ANSI) A300 guidelines” or as directed by the ENGINEER.
