® City of Sunny Isles Beach • RFQ No. 12-04-02-Traffic Engineering &Transportation Consulting
® develop transit along the US-1 Corridor, resulting in an acknowledgement that
® Heavy Rail transit as a preferred alternative was no longer feasible; to be successful
® in the provision of efficient and effective transit service, a more right-sized form of
® transit would need to be identified. All of these studies were integral in determining
® the costs and benefits of the development of public infrastructure to service their
communities. Performing a study of this nature is an exercise in detail by first,
® identifying a variety of alternatives, and then, identifying multiple operational and
O prioritization criteria. Financial analysis is also crucial. This includes cost of land,
® planning, design, construction as well as operations and maintenance amortized
® over the life of the facility. The studies progress by screening alternatives through
® the various criteria and finally ranking alternatives. Once a preferred alternative is
selected, it is critical to perform the necessary public outreach in order to
® implement the facility.
Engineering studies are part of the land development processes: An evaluation
® of roads, bridges, buildings all fall under the purview of engineering analysis.
® Corradino has a full-complement of civil, roadway, and construction engineers
® that work on similar efforts for municipal and state governments across the
nation. They have performed feasibility studies-for roadways, railways, airports,
and municipal buildings. They have also designed and managed the
construction of streetscapes and traffic calming projects.
® 1
® Corradino has done corridor planning across the nation. Recently in this region, the
® firm has planned for the US-1 Corridor, the SR 7 Corridor,,Krome A' enue Corridor, as
® well as similar efforts in-Doral, Miami Beach, North Miami, and many others. The firm
® has an extensive Project{Development and Environment (PD&E), Planning Division
® that works on these projects for FDOT and other departments of transportation.
® .
® The processes'used to plan transportation projects are ever evolving, yet they
® are still very centralized. In light of the- -more diverse livability goals of
® contemporary transportation and -urban planning, the methods of considering
transportation projects is changing more quickly in recent years. Corradino
practices a combination of corridor/livability projects, which represent a new
® generation of transportation planning in South Florida. This approach
® acknowledges that transportation and land use are inextricably linked. The
® Corradino Group and its team are very familiar with the approach, resulting
® from much work across the nation over the past four decades. Specifically,
$ work was accomplished along the US-1 Corridor in southern Miami-Dade
® County, where the primary roadway corridor was enhanced with premium
transit in the form of bus rapid transit, while simultaneous land use planning (for
® relrun A mime 2-9
•-•%.0 A LJ I I NW
