• did not exist. The plan provided for economic projections, development of large user agreements
and other means for the County to economically start up the water utility. The plan resulted in the
•
identification and eventual development of a new well field strategically located to stay away from
• potential development areas, sufficiently away from coastal areas to prevent salt water intrusion,
• and in a buffer area next to the Big Cypress National Preserve so as to minimize impact on this
• national park.
• Comprehensive Water Plan,Lee County,Florida - Project Manager and Project Engineer for the Lee
• County Comprehensive Water Plan.Initially this plan called for the assessment of the existing water
• system the County owned, and to provide for immediate improvements that focused on leakage
• control, illegal taps and water grid strengthening through strategic new water mains in order to
bring the system up to standards where further expansion was possible. The initial plan also focused
• on the water treatment system which had been designed for traditional South Florida ground water
• treatment, yet the existing plant was the only surface water treatment plant in South Florida with
® water being provided through an intake in the Caloosahatchee River. Subsequent to completing
of the first phase, the plan looked forward to the development of new water resources, treatment
• facilities, storage and distribution for an area expected to grow well over 400,000 population. The
• plan resulted in a major capital expansion program including development of a new well field and
• treatment facility in southern Lee County. and major storage facilities and repumping stations to
strengthen fire supply capability throughout the County.
