The existing drainage system was replaced with a deep well system for a majority of the project. However,
the southern portion of the project required the installation of a pump station as an injection well drainage system was
® necessary due to the low elevations in this section of the project. The project also included the installation of a new
O decorative lighting system, landscaping, and irrigation. All eight (8) signalized intersections with span wire systems were
replaced with standard Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) mast arms and the existing overhead truss structure
0 was replaced with a smaller cantilever sign structure.
O Our landscape architects designed the Biscayne Boulevard streetscape to reflect the distinctive urban street character of
O the existing stores, businesses, and mixed-use residential. As desired by the City of Miami,FDOT,and District 6,the stately
O and historic existing Royal Palms were preserved. They were supplemented with the addition of large Live Oaks that
provided shade creating a linear plaza corridor. Sidewalk widths were also increased to enhance the plaza concept. Under
® the trees and palms, large planted and irrigated spaces of shrubs and ground covers were designed in a"ribbon" pattern,
0 with an emphasis on low maintenance, native and flowering plants. Sod areas were eliminated. Additionally, conduit and
junction boxes for future landscape lighting were designed for the project.
0
0
• Client: FDOT District 6
O Contact:Jose Barrera, P.E.
Phone: (305) 470-5560
I® Start Date:May 2004
® Completion Date:April 2009
Fees:$1.5 million
• Construction Fees:$15.8 million (estimated) Construction to begin September 2009
0
®. _ .. ;I/,LKEITH and SCHNAR.S,P.A.
-- •]tk FIDRIofAi3/110CAt FIMt
40 RFQt2-04-02 PAGE 55
