Responsible for the construction • administration related to the project. Some of the construction administration services provided for • this project included but not limited to weekly construction/coordination meetings, all shop drawing • program functions, respond to request for information (RFI's), evaluation request for changes to project schedules, contract documents clarifications, inspect all MOT operations, and review, track and maintain construction schedules. • Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District VI, Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) (1993- 2005) Mr. Mohandes served as FDOT's Program Manager. The MIC, Florida's largest transportation • project and a project of national significance was estimated to cost approximately 1.4 billion dollars. ® Mr. Mohandes reported directly to the district secretary. The MIC is being designed and built to solve the pressing transportation needs in Miami-Dade County, currently ranked the third most • congested area in the country. It will be a transfer point providing connectivity for this community's • various modes of ground transportation including Miami-Dade Transit Authority, Greyhound bus lines, Tri-Rail and Amtrak. Currently, such a connecting point does not exist anywhere in Miami- • Dade County. The MIC will also decongest ground transportation access to Miami International • Airport (MIA), the eighth largest airport in the U.S. and one of the fastest growing. MIC was the first project to receive a loan under the federal Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act • (TIFIA), part of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century, or TEA-21. • The MIC Program includes the Rental Car Center (RCC), Miami Central Station (MCS), MIA Mover • and major roadway improvements, all to be completed by 2012. FDOT is also pursuing private • and/or public sector joint development projects to enhance the MIC's economic viability. Miami-Dade County is developing the MIC-Airport Link Metrorail Extension bringing Metrorail service to MIA via • the Miami Central Station by 2012. One of the major roadway improvements includes the Le Jeune Road/MIA Interchange reconstruction with 12 new and/or reconstructed bridges, reconstruction of NW 14th Street from NW 34th Avenue to NW 42`d Court, MIA Tri-Rail Station relocation and • improvements, MIA Mover Guideway (light rail system from MIC/MIA Station to MIA Station) with 7' • and 12' diameter by 80' deep concrete drilled shafts, and the future MIC Core private development. • Mr. Mohandes was responsible for the management of this mega-project from the PD&E, right-of- • way acquisition, utility relocation coordination, design of bridges and roadways, and construction • management, engineering and inspection services. Turner Construction Company was the Construction Manager contracted by the FDOT under the CM @ Risk process to construct this • project, which is currently ongoing. Mr. Mohandes continued as Program Manager of this project for • approximately 2.5 years of this phase of the project. East/West Multimodal Corridor (EWC) (1993-1998) Mr. Mohandes served as FDOT's Program • Manager for the 22-mile long transit project beginning at the Tamiami Campus of Florida • International University (FIU), and extending the length of SR-836, pass MIA, through Downtown Miami to the port, across Biscayne Bay to South Beach, and ending at the Miami Beach Convention • Center. EWC was the first transit project in Miami-Dade County to obtain a record of decision in • August of 1998.
