® the street, we added some pervious pavers in a wave pattern around the trees with the objective of allowing
® crossing without stepping on the planting. For the Johnson and Wales University Median in NE 127 Street in
North Miami we created a double colonnade of Royal Palms with a diverse native planting as an understory
® with small flowering trees.
® These three projects represent three different situations in terms of permitting and regulations within the
three municipalities: Brickell Avenue as an FDOT Road, Washington Avenue as a County Road and 127
® Street as a Local Road.
Work Methodology
Based on the Scope outlined in the RFQ, we envision our role as designers and planners as the main
® conductor of the design process for the Landscape Architectural projects. Based on our previous successful
® experience with our consultants, we will be creating specific design solutions for streets, urban design, site
master planning and parks located within the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
® Generally, our tasks/process, which will be refined in consultation with the City, may include:
® 1.Analyze existing conditions and report findings
® 2. Discover constraints and opportunities for the project areas
® 3. Develop a coordinated palette of plantings, paving, lighting, street furniture and signage/graphics
® for projects as design guidelines
4. Develop alternative conceptual designs for those areas identified by the City leadership
® 5. Review alternatives and as/when appropriate, with the City, County, State and other agencies
® and stakeholders
® 6. Assist in identifying "preferred" solutions and developing them into recommended conceptual designs
® 7. Represent the City at coordination meeting with other agencies and participate in public meetings
® as necessary
8. Develop Construction Documents and Specifications to build specific projects
® 9.Address such other issues as directed by the City, which may include additional tasks not noted above
In regards to planting, an important part of our projects is the application of innovative—and new techniques
® — to preserve and encourage the healthy growth of existing and proposed trees in urban environments so
close to the ocean.
S
® We are well versed in the design and implementation of"Xeriscape" landscapes. Various methods are available
® to effectively conserve water and other resources, such as grouping plants by water requirements, irrigation
"zoning", the design of porous pipe underground irrigation, use of gravels and native drought-tolerant plants
® and mulching. Just as importantly, is the need to minimize demands for maintenance. Generally, our design
® documents reflect the most current techniques for low maintenance, resource-efficient landscapes.
® In addition to the traditional scope of landscape architectural services, such as planting, irrigation and paving
design, our team will provide site lighting consultation, maintenance specifications, recommendations for
® street furniture and signage/graphic design through a set of defined Urban/Street Design Guidelines for the
® City of Sunny Isles Beach.
Savino& '( - fl+4•w Studio cl;{,la]#12-04-02 63
0
