• _ Professional Category:
C ni } LT-0:1 1.1\071511FFIC o
S_ rn/P flt4&;
SW _
•
• Project Organization
• Effective project management is essential to the production of quality work and successful projects completed
• on schedule and within budget. The basic approach to any project begins with an effective project manager
• who understands the project requirements and is committed to developing a project team that contains the
® right staff for the right job and maximizes the expertise and experience of each professional.
• Once the proper team has been assembled for any given project, it is easier to anticipate problems before
• they occur. Kimley-Horn project manager Adam Kerr, P.E. will develop detailed work plans that include
specific task items for the duration of all projects with associated team members' responsibilities and
• corresponding time. The work plan defines who, what, when, where, and how for all project tasks with clearly
• defined channels of communication. This level of detail requires that the project manager and team members
• think the project through and develop a plan that they are responsible for implementing.
• Identify Key Issues
• During the planning and design process, it is important to identify and resolve key issues as early as possible.
• Issues addressed during the preliminary design phase often impact existing systems, levels of service,
® budget, and ease of operation and maintenance. Kimley-Horn's approach to design has always been to
emphasize creativity while minimizing construction costs and maximizing functionality.
•
® Design Phase
• Whatever the task, Kimley-Horn will begin with a comprehensive team effort to work with the City during the
• very critical preliminary design phase. It is vitally important that all major decisions are thoroughly examined
and consensus is reached before subsequent designs and construction drawings are prepared. We will use
• our experience in planning, design, construction, and operational assistance on all elements of any project.
• Our same team of engineers is involved in every step of the design and construction phases from beginning
® to end. This allows staff to communicate their desires throughout the design process and eliminates surprises
during construction, startup, and long-term operation and maintenance of the facility.
•
• Construction Administration
• If required during a project, Kimley-Horn can provide construction administration and observation
• services, including assisting in the bidding process, providing a full- or part-time construction observation
• representative, reviewing monthly pay estimates, evaluating equipment delivered as compared to shop
drawings, coordinating punch list observations, and coordinating materials testing.
•
• Construction Documents and Specifications
• Preparation of the construction documents requires careful attention to detail and a thorough understanding
• of the issues identified in the initial phases. Each piece of equipment must be specified so the City knows
what to expect during the construction phase. Materials, products, and equipment must be able to provide
• long-term, trouble-free service. On the other hand, over specification can lead to significant cost increases.
• The Kimley-Horn team has in-depth experience with the types of material selections that work best. Our
• design team has practical experience during construction and equipment startup. This experience allows us to
design facilities that will be easy to construct, easy to operate, and easy to maintain—resulting in significantly
• reduced costs to the City. Our construction experience also has given us an insight into the importance of
•
• FFo No.12-03-02 ^ Kimley-Horn
0V300014.12o Sunny Isles ME Services.indd \M I I and Associates,Inc.
• 4-2
