Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting December 17,2015 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
Commission to formally take action on. That process is going to take about six(6)months to
do and that is when we will start construction.
Public Speakers: None
Mayor Scholl said to be clear, we are giving authority to award the RFQ and negotiate and
complete an agreement. City Manager Russo said that is correct and we will formally
establish the actual GMP probably within a six-month time period and that will come back to
•
the Commission for approval.
Commissioner Aelion moved and Vice Mayor Gatto seconded a motion to approve the
resolution. Resolution No. 2015-2503 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor.
10G. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Approving
the First Amendment to the Agreement with Perkins + Will for Architectural Design
Services for the Government Center Annex at 18080 Collins Avenue, to Include
Interior Design and Consultant Design Fees for a 250-Seat Community Theater, in an
Amount Not to Exceed $229,300.00, Attached Hereto as Exhibit "A"; Authorizing the
Mayor to Execute Said First Amendment to Agreement;Authorizing the City Manager to Do
All Things Necessary to Effectuate this Resolution; Providing for an Effective Date.
Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and City Manager Russo said this is the additional
amounts for the Architects and the necessary subs to design a professional 250-seat
auditorium in the building as directed at our review of the preliminary plans for the building.
Also, this required changes to the entire Fire Safety System in the building, and needs more
review. We will come back for final signoff of the conceptual plans at the January meeting.
Public Speakers: None •
Commissioner Goldman asked how we can have this Consultant AEA interface with this
community theater because this is really something that maybe involves our Cultural Master,
Plan or program. Shouldn't the Consultant be involved to a certain extent? Mayor Scholl
said it is designed in principle and so we can have the Consultant in it. City Manager Russo
said he is not sure in what ways but we will certainly share all the information with them, and
discuss with Lynn Dannheisser and see how that will fit in with their proposal.
Mayor Scholl said actually, the idea for the theater emanated a lot from Lynn Dannheisser
and former Mayor Norman S. Edelcup because we have talked about it for a while. But he
thinks given the timing of the Consultant and the timing of the design that they should be
able to interface. Commissioner Goldman said because certainly part of the scope of services
of the Consultant is really to evaluate physical facilities. What we have in this indoor venue
concept is really very critical and compelling to us when we move forward with our Cultural
Master Plan. City Manager Russo said we will share the plans with them, and Mayor Scholl
said he thinks it is a good idea. Commissioner Aelion said it is more functional than
architectural, which we will leave to the experts, but the functional, he agrees 100%.
Commissioner Aelion moved and Commissioner Goldman seconded a motion to approve
the resolution. Resolution No. 2015-2504 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor.
12
