PROJECT EXPERIENCE
RAPID STORM RESPONSE
Disney Vero Beach Resort Post Hurricane Shoreline Surveys, Vero Beach FL
ollowing multiple hurricane
strikes in 2004 by Hurricanes
Frances and Jeanne, Olin
Hydrographic Solutions was
hired to rapidly survey the
quantity of sand lost from the
dunes fronting the resort. As the
storms approached, OHS
received a last minute call to
document the pre- storm
conditions. OHS was airborne in
its Cessna 210 airplane en -route
to the jobsite within 1 hour of the
call due to its equipment being
kept in a rapid deployable state.
Pre- storm surveys were
conducted using RTK GPS and
standard leveling techniques due r
to the building sea state. An immediate post storm survey
and volume calculations were performed to calculate the sand
losses directly obtainable from the storms. Consultations with
the client and FEMA for potential funding were conducted and
beach nourishment design drawings were generated in
AutoCAD that maximized the amount of fill above the MHW
line. The firm participated in a county wide beach nourishment
from 2010 to 2012.
A V
www.OlinHydrographic.com
Consulting Engineering, Environmental, and Mapping Services
