Development must be pedestrian friendly and encourage street
level activity. Vehicular circulation must be carefully orchestrated to calm traffic and provide a variety of discrete
parking solutions that maintain the urban fabric and promote density. Historic structures must be preserved and
civic spaces revived. Identity and clarity should be enhanced with streetscape improvements, attractive
landscaping, and wayfinding systems
Great neighborhoods, and by extension, great cities, are remembered for their streets rather than their
buildings. Chen Moore and Associates integrates this philosophy into our streetscape design. Great streets form
the glue that holds a successful community together. Our philosophy of community and street design involves
organizing a hierarchy of streets to respond to the varying urban use and density conditions and establishing
appropriate standards for each street type. Some of the CMA transportation and streetscape design experience
includes:
Design Philosophy
Public landscapes, whether in the form of parks, streetscapes, or other municipal facilities, serve many
purposes. They provide beautification, shade, habitat for wildlife, they improve water quality, and they can
serve as educational spaces informing the public of our need to care for our natural resources. They improve
our quality of life and enhance the urban experience. Our approach to landscape architecture is to understand
a client’s ability to maintain the spaces we create. The design and its implementation represent a fraction of the
works anticipated life. We work closely with the City to make certain you inherit facilities that can be maintained
for the long term benefit of your community. Landscapes and infrastructure should be sustainable socially,
environmentally, and economically.
In the last five years, we have provided services on the following types of projects:
• Coastal Parks (requiring permitting through FDEP)
• Urban Parks (accommodating green markets, art work, and other community festivals)
• Active Parks with recreation facilities (Baseball, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Multi-Use Fields)
• Site Plan processing for community redevelopment projects and private development site
• Wayfinding Strategies
• Streetscape Design and Implementation
• Complete Streets Conceptual Design and Implementation
• Irrigation Studies and Implementation of Irrigation Central Control for municipalities and universities
• Urban Tree Canopy Studies
• Plans Review
Project Approach
CMA understands the varied demands of Continuing Services Contracts. Our client’s needs come first. Ensuring
the successful completion of a project begins with careful listening and planning. It is critical to clearly define
the project scope and goals for all stakeholders prior to beginning the work effort. CMA understands the need
to provide innovative and sustainable solutions on time and within budget. Our process for project delivery has
been carefully developed through our many years of experience serving municipal clients.
1. Scope of Work
Defining a clear project scope with the Client is the key to successful projects. We will meet with the City
of Sunny Isles to get a clear understanding of the desired project outcome and budget prior to providing
any fee proposals. CMA will work with the City to develop clear goals for any project assignment, so that
as your consultant, we can begin to ask the right questions to develop the scope of work. We will request
any existing information the City may have on record, such as surveys, existing permits, geotechnical
reports, master plan studies, etc. that may aid in developing a clear understanding of the requested work
assignment.
