Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting June 16,2016 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
4. ORDER OF BUSINESS (Additions/Deletions/Amendments)
None
5. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS
5A. Presentation/Announcement of Police Promotions.
Action: Police Chief Fred Maas made a special recognition to two gentlemen that have for
the past eighteen (18) years showed their absolute support of law enforcement, and in
addition to that have supported our sponsored specialized awards for the officers throughout
those years. One of them is Richard "Dick" Parrillo who is here tonight in support of the
promoted officers, and three of the four promoted officers have been named winners of the
Parrillo Family Award. Mr. Parrillo, President of United Auto, stood up to be recognized.
Chief Maas noted that Mr. Parrillo works heavily with law enforcement in Miami-Dade
County as well as the State Attorney's Office continuing to keep the industry safe.
Chief Maas said he also has a reminder to the promoted officers. You are accepting an even
greater challenge tonight, that of a Supervisor to watch over, guide, mentor, and direct your
subordinates. He reminded them of their oath as a Police Officer that they took on their very
first day of sworn law enforcement,to protect and defend against all enemies and those who
would do us harm, both foreign and domestic. That is the part he wants them to remember,
both foreign and domestic. You now have an even greater obligation to keep this City safe
and to protect them against all who would do us harm whether from the outside or internally.
- He asked the City Manager to join him as they present to the audience and to the
Commission those who after much study, hard work, and dedication to this City, have
attained the right to be promoted to the first and in some cases to the next level of
supervision. It is important that we do this in front of the community because you will see
who not only is representative of this Department but who the future leaders of this
Department are for many years to come. He thanked the Commission for their support.
City Manager Russo called up the following law enforcement officers:
Corporal Norberto Alvarez, and Captain Dwight Snyder pinned on his badge. Chief Maas
said this gentleman came to us after he retired from the Hialeah Police Department, with
many years of experience. He was actually a Lieutenant in charge of many subordinates and
he came to us and was willing to work as a Patrolman and has since worked his way up. We
are getting a wealth of experience automatically from someone in this level of supervision.
Corporal Javier Estevez , and his wife Kathrine pinned on his badge. Chief Maas said
Corporal Estevez is moving from the Traffic Unit to the Uniform Patrol Division.
Corporal Luke Plesa, and his wife Andrea pinned on his badge. Chief Maas said Corporal
Plesa is coming out of the Detective Bureau and moving to the Uniform Patrol Division.
Lieutenant Eddie Santiago, and his wife Anna pinned on his badge. Chief Maas noted that
Lieutenant Santiago has been with us since the very first day of this Department, July 20,
1998. Lieutenant Santiago will continue as Supervisor in the Uniform Patrol Division.
2
