Russo, City Manager ~'I--.

February 05, 2002

BID AWARD #01-12-01 - GOLDEN SHORES DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT &
PAVING PROJECT

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Commission adopt the attached resolution awarding Bid No. 01-12-01 to
The Redland Company, Inc. ("Redland"), 23799 S.W. 167 Avenue, Homestead, FL 33031, in an
amount of up to Three Million Four Hundred Forty-Nine Thousand Eight Hundred Ninety-Six
Dollars and Fifty-Six Cents ($3,449,896.56), for the Golden Shores Drainage Improvement and
Paving Project.

REASONS

Utilizing the formal bid process established under City Ordinance 2000-101, the City issued Bid No.
01-12-01 - Golden Shores Drainage Improvement and Paving Project. Thirteen (13) prospective
bidders picked up packets, with four (4) companies submitting bids. After an extensive company
background check, it was determined that Redland was the lowest responsive bidder meeting our
specifications, as established by Beiswenger, Hoch and Associates, our consulting engineers.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The attached memorandum outlines the evaluation and decision making process that lead to the
selection of The Redland Company, Inc. Also, many items listed in the bid specifications deal with
quantities of material such as tons or cubic yards. While we feel comfortable with the figures given,
there is always the possibility of unforeseen occurrences. In the event we need to adjust any quantity,
and therefore, dollar amounts, we will once again come before the Commission for approval.

CRJJW/pw
