FIU
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY
Miami's public research university
August 23, 2005
Mr. Christopher Russo,City Manager
City of Sunny Isles Beach
17070 Collins Ave(#250)
Sunny Isles Beach, FL, 33160
RE: Request for Renewal of Funding for FIU Biscayne Bay Project
The FIU Biscayne Bay Society would like to invite the City of Sunny Isles Beach to
renew its funding of$5,000 for the FIU Biscayne Bay Society Project.
We are extremely grateful for the City's support during this past year. Because of your
strong support, several other municipalities have joined in funding our efforts to inform
the residents of the surrounding communities of all of the many outreach cultural and
educational events that are produced by various departments at this Campus. As a result,
we have been able to inform more than 150,000 residents each month, through direct
mail, Miami Herald newspaper advertising, and direct mail to more than 250
condominiums. As a result, more than 2500 residents have attended these events, with
high praise being offered by most of the attendees. Residents of the City of Sunny Isles
Beach have made up a substantial number of those attending.
Under separate cover, we have sent you materials describing the events of the past year,
and our methods of publicizing them to local residents.
This coming year (2005/2006), the University will continue to offer more than 200 adult
educational/cultural/entertainment events open to the public. In addition, the Society will
continue to sponsor the very popular"2"d Tuesday at Biscayne Bay campus"events.
For your files, the following pages contain a description of our activities, and a narrative
proposal.
Again, we thank you for your continued support and encouragement. If any additional
information is needed, please call,
Raul c .
