For pipes or conduit 6 in. or larger, tanks and other work indicated to <br />receive subbase, excavate to subbase depth indicated, or, if not <br />otherwise indicated, to 6 in. below bottom of work to be supported. <br />5. Except as otherwise indicated, excavate for exterior water - bearing piping <br />so top of piping is minimum 30" below finished grade. <br />6. Grade bottoms of trenches as indicated, notching under pipe bells to <br />provide solid bearing for entire body of pipe. <br />N. Do not backfill trenches until tests and inspections have been made and <br />backfilling authorized by Engineer. <br />3.04 PIPE INTERFERENCES <br />A. The contractor shall abide by the following schedule of criteria concerning <br />interferences with other utilities. <br />1. In no case shall there be less than 0.3 feet between any two pipelines <br />and structures. <br />2. Class I Concrete Encasement: Wherever there is more than 0.3 foot, but <br />not less than 1.5 foot clearance between water mains or water services, <br />then a concrete encasement shall be provided in accordance with the <br />typical detail as shown on the Drawings. <br />3. Class II Concrete Encasement: Wherever there is more than 0.3 foot, <br />but less than 1.0 foot clearance between any two pipe lines, or between <br />pipe lines and structures, then a concrete encasement shall be provided <br />in accordance with the typical detail as shown on the Drawings. <br />B. The Engineer shall have full authority to direct the placement of the various pipes <br />and structures in order to facilitate construction, expedite completion and to <br />avoid conflicts. <br />3.05 BACKFILLING <br />A. Backfilling over pipes shall begin as soon as practical after the pipe has been <br />laid, jointed, and inspected and the trench filled with suitable compacted material <br />to the mid - diameter of the pipe. <br />B. All backfilling shall be prosecuted expeditiously as work permits, but not until <br />completion of the following: <br />1. Acceptance of construction below finish grade including waterproofing <br />and perimeter insulation. <br />2.
