John Szerlag, City Manager <br /> <br />Susan Simpson, Cultural and Human Services Director <br /> <br />November 18, 2008 <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF EXERCISE EQUIPMENT FOR <br />THE COMMUNITY CENTER AT PELICAN COMMUNITY PARK <br />FROM GYM SOURCE <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />It is recommended that the City Commission approve the purchase of exercise equipment for the <br />community center at Pelican Community Park from Gym Source in an amount not to exceed <br />Twenty Four Thousand, Nine Hundred, Ninety Four Dollars and Ninety Eight Cents <br />($24,994.98). <br /> <br />REASONS: <br />The City wishes to offer a workout room as one of the amenities of the community center. As <br />such, staff researched equipment best suited for the space and demographics of the community in <br />which we serve. The attached proposal from Gym Source will offer a variety of both cardio and <br />strength workout equipment designed for the casual exerciser including a product new to the <br />market, an elliptical recumbent bike, offering a full body workout while seated. Other <br />equipment includes 2 treadmills, 1 recumbent bike, 1 elliptical strider, free weights and workout <br />stations, all of which are detailed in the attachments as well as a layout of the equipment for <br />optimal use of our limited space. You must be a member of the community center at Pelican <br />Community Park in order to use this room. <br /> <br />ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br />Three quotes were obtained for the same product as required by Chapter 62-7 of the City Code <br />for items greater than $10,000 but less than $25,000. Gym Source provided the lowest quote for <br />the same products.
