Successful urban design must balance function and aesthetics while responding to critical environmental and social issues, including ecology, traffic, infrastructure, visual impacts and economic viability. Utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, EDAW has created urban strategies and designs for the revitalization and redevelopment of urban and suburban centers. Our clients include public agencies, corporations, organizations, and developers. We have provided comprehensive analysis, programming, master planning, implementation strategies, design guidelines and development controls services as well as site specific design work including detailed design, construction drawings and supervision. EDAW views streetscape design projects as opportunities to create community identity and a "sense of place." EDAW's urban design and streetscape experience spans more than 40 years and is represented by projects throughout the United States and abroad. We are experienced in the analysis of urban development patterns such as specific district plans, street corridor design, community open space networks, and urban form organization. While pedestrian and traffic safety concerns are very important, we also seek ways to support the larger goals of community identity and economic revitalization. Our design expertise includes not only streetscape design, but also signing, wayfinding, and environmental graphic design. Wherever possible, we capitalize on unique resources such as natural features, parks, cultural centers and historical precedent to establish identity and create a true sense of place. In short, we understand all that cities can potentially be. We have a long track record of successful built projects that have not only fulfilled their design goals, but have also stood the test of time from a construction and maintenance standpoint. We firmly believe that the product of our efforts is a successful built environment, not simply a set of drawings. Collins Avenue has a long history serving the citizens of Sunny Isles and the other barrier islands as the main north/south artery. From its early days as a mercantile path to the present multi-lane roadway, Collins Avenue has long been identified as the beaches 'main street'. Sunny Isles has been greatly affected by two of the great South Florida building booms - the first just after World War II and the other more recent development of residential high-rises. The character of Collins Avenue has changed along with times. As Sunny Isles has grown and continues to grow, enhancements to the Collins Avenue corridor will be required to handle the anticipated vehicular and pedestrian activity. The recently completed roadway improvements have gone a long way in improving the vehicular experience yet, the pedestrian experience (especially along the west side of the right of way) needs to be EDAW INe DESIGN, PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENTS WORLDWIDE
