An artist will be commissioned to interpret the historical data into a collection of unique pieces that emulate the transformation from the City's sub- tropical wilderness beginnings to a reflection of the dynamic international community it is today. . Along the boundary of the site adjacent to Collins Avenue (A 1 A), a 10' wide pedestrian promenade will be integrated into the project to assure that the composition and experience is complete all the way to the curb and centrally located "portal" will highlight the pedestrian entrance to the site and provide an opportunity for signage as an announcement to the community. Sound environmental planning and the use of coastally adapted vegetation types will be a key component to the park. Xeriscape conscious planting design will be used in the park that requires low water consumption. South Florida has a wide variety of native plants that are both attractive and useful in the landscape. Numerous attractive trees, palms, shrubs, groundcovers and turf are available to complement the xeriscape planting design. Vegetation that is also wind and salt tolerant due to the close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean is a necessity. A significant portion of the landscape will include desirable native plant material which has proven to be hardy, low-maintenance, drought- tolerant, and will insure efficient use of maintenance and water resources. Beyond the "portal", the two bocce ball courts will be embraced by tree groves that will shade the players and act to diffuse the coastal winds. Continuing South a wave inspired sodded berm area will round out the project for open play opportunities for all ages to enjoy. At the southeast corner of the parking garage there is an opportunity for public works storage below the second level landing with direct access to the park on the east side of the garage, as well as internal to the parking garage. . - 6- cubellis.
