The County's
Haulover Beach Park is just south of the City. This park consists of one-hundred and eight-nine
(189) acres, including over seven thousand (7,000) linear feet of beach and boat launch facilities.

...

..

-

Recreation and Open Space Needs

-

The City's current population was calculated by the number of 1999 households and by the number
of persons per household (1.73). The population, both current and future, is then compared to the
Levd of Service (LOS) of 2.75 acres of recreation and open space for every one thousand (1,000)
residents. The following table details that the City has adequate recreation and open space for both
current and future needs.

-

-

-

-

Recreation Needs

-

-

-

-

1999
2004
2009

13,871
15,786
17,701

38.15
43.41
48.68

114
114
114

..

-

Source: 1990 Census, Walter H. The plans for the parks are currently being developed. The City in its ddiberations may
consider adopting a more detailed LOS standard to meet the needs of its residents. The Florida
Department of Environmental Protection, for example, recommends more specific standards such as
one tennis court per one-thousand residents.

..

-

-

-

-

-

-

..

-

-

-

-

-

..

-

..

..

Sunny Isles Comprehensive Pia'! - Existing Conditions I Background Documents

36

..

-
