";AA

i.

Levels of Service

....

..

The County's standard for wastewater treatment is based upon the average daily flow from the
preceding year. The system is required to be able to accommodate 102% of the preceding year's
daily average. An additional requirement calls for the system to handle one hundred gallons of
wastewater per capita per day.

-

..

-

Proiected Capacity and Demand f9J-5.011(l)(f)l

..

..

According to the Miami Dade Evaluation and Appraisal Report, the County's wastewater treatment
system is capable of handling the demand and need until the year 2015. An analysis of the projected
capacity of the four wastewater pumping station was also completed. Future populations were
estimated at a Floor to Area Ratio (FAR) of 3.5. Based upon this data the City's population will
increase from 13,871 to 17,701 in the year 2009. This increased demand, shown bdowas FAR 3.5
impact, when combined with a current levd of demand ranging from 91,500 to 233,700 gallons per
station, might tax the stations beyond their current capacity.

..

-

<<III

..

<<III

Potential Wastewater Demand, City of Sunny Isles Beach

-

..

..

-

315
316
301
317

19450 Collins Ave.
155 NE 189th St.
350 Sunn Isles Blvd.
350' Point Dr.

244,512
244,512
244,512
244,512

-178,212
-105,312
-170,412
-36,012

..

..

..

Source: Miami Dade County Dept. of Environmental Resources Management

-

Future development and redevelopment projects within the City will be examined by the County's
Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM) in order to determine if the existing
pumping stations are capable of meeting the increased usage. The possibility exists that the stations
may require upgrading in order to meet the new demand.

-

..

..

..

It has been proposed that the existing wastewater treatment plant be re-rated to accommodate
future demand. The addition of new injection wdls, along with the re-rating, will increase the
plant's capacity to one hundred twenty (120) MGD.

..

..

..

The County's LOS of one hundred gallons per day per capita was used to calculate future demand.
While this demand is not available for individual facilities, future projections for the entire system
are available. The County projects an increase in demand of 334 MGD in the year 2000 and an
increase of 370 MGD by the year 2010. The table bdow demonstrates that an improved and
expanded treatment plant will adequatdy accommodate the increased needs of the City.

-

-

..

..

..

..

Sunny Isles Comprehensive Plan - Existing Conditions i Background Documents

44

-

..
