A wide range of public water-oriented opponunities shall be provided at the water's <br />edge within the coastal areas in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. 1brough its <br />Development Review process, the City shall continue to afford greater visual and <br />physical public access to the beach and Intra-coastal Waterway. <br /> <br />3F. The City shall place a high priority on maintaining existing water-d.ependent uses <br />(i.e., uses which cannot exist or occur without association with coastal or estuarine <br />water masses), and water-related uses by the public by identifying appropriate, <br />environmentally compatible areas for such activities. The provision of fucilities and <br />services to accomplish the timely evacuation of the City's residents in advance of <br />approaching hurricanes shall be a priority of the Gty of Sunny Isles Beach's <br />transportation planning and hurricane preparedness programs. <br /> <br />Bulkhead repair or construction shall include the placement of rip-rap except where <br />placement would be a hazard to navigation, or public safety, or would preclude <br />continued public recreational uses. Alternatives to rip-rap, such as an area of wave- <br />absorbing material built into a seawall, shall be evaluared for use in places where rip- <br />rap is not practical or safe, and where boat wakes create hazards to navigation. <br /> <br />3G. New developments along the beach and Intra-coastal Warerway at a minimum <br />should include environmentally compatible shoreline access facilities such as <br />walkways, piers, and viewing areas with landscaping grouped or spaced for views of <br />and from the water. <br /> <br />3H. The use of causeways, road rights-of-way and canal easements at shorelines shall be <br />expanded wherever possible and additional sires sought to provide public access for <br />water-related activities. <br /> <br />31. No filling, spoiling or placement of structures in or over coastal or estuarine waters <br />shall be pennitted to diminish water surface areas that have been traditionally and <br />intensively used by the general public for activities such as fJShing, swimming, and <br />boating. <br /> <br />IlJI <br />.. <br /> <br />{)j '")un <br /> <br />8 <br /> <br />
