The City shall work with the County to ensure that no further dredging or filling <br />that would result in the destruction of grass/algae flats, hard bottom or other <br />viable benthic communities shall be permitted in Dumfoundling Bay, the tidal <br />portions or their natural tributaries, except as provided for in Chapter 24.58 of the <br />Code, as may be amended from time to time. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />IF. The results of the County's long-term monitoring of water quality, benthic <br />habitats, and living resources shall be utilized by the City to improve permitting <br />processes and to guide future coastal restoration and enhancement activities. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />IG. The City shall support the County's effort to use culverts and other large <br />rubble to create permitted artificial reefs in deep dredged holes and troughs in <br />Dumfoundling Bay that meet the following criteria: <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />1) they are too deep or turbid to support viable benthic communities; <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />2) reef material can be placed in a manner that will not interfere with <br />traditional boating or fIShing uses, and will not be harmful to <br />existing or adjoining marine environments; <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />!IIIII <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />3) they are areas that are prone to accumulate fme bottom sediment <br />that is re-suspended by tidal flow, minor wind stress or boat <br />agitation; <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />4) they are preferentially accessible to shoreline fishermen. <br /> <br />!IIIII <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Objective 2 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Protect, conserve or enhance beaches and dunes and offshore reef communities. <br /> <br />... <br /> <br />Policies <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />2A. Where beach restoration or renourishment is necessary, the project shall be <br />designed and managed to minimize damage to the offshore grass flats and dune <br />vegetation. <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />.. <br />. <br /> <br />2B. Beaches shall be stabilized by planting, maintaining and monitoring appropriate <br />dune vegetation, and by providing elevated footpaths or other means of traversing <br />the dune without contributing to erosion.
