Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting

June 17,2010

City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida

Vice Mayor Thaler noted that we will now be able to connect this park with the new park that
we are putting above it, we will have a walkway through so that the bicyclists will be able to
go from the Heritage Park all the way through to 16ih Street, and then we will continue it to
the end of Sunny Isles Beach. This is the last part we needed in order to complete that, a
bicycle path and a walk path through all of Sunny Isles Beach.

Vice Mayor Thaler moved and Commissioner Scholl seconded a motion to approve this
resolution. Resolution No. 2010-1575 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor.

11. MOTIONS

None

12. DISCUSSION ITEMS

12A. Discussion and Possible Action regarding Terminating Certain Engineering Contracts and
Securing Replacements.

Action: Withdrawn. [City Clerk's Note: See additional action under Item 4A.]

13. CITIZENS' FORUM: REQUESTS, PETITIONS & OTHER COMMUNICATIONS

13A. Ilia Usharovich said that he saw there is a college scholarship being established, and there are
a lot of students who are not going to college, they will become mechanics, vocational type
of students, and that leaves them behind from this program. They don't have any incentive to
stay free from drugs because they are not going to college. He urged the Commission to
come up with other ways in order to encourage the students that are not going to college to
have a chance and to stay drug free.

Commissioner Brezin said that is an excellent point but we should be a little more informed
in th!lt area as to the comparison, how many children are we talking about, what percentage
of the graduates are we talking about. Ifwe are talking about 4 or 5 children it is difficult to
initiate an entire program based on that. There may be other areas where those children can
be helped.

14. ADJOURNMENT

Mayor Edelcup adjourned the meeting at 7:33 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by:

Approved by the City Commission on July 15,2010

~WA~

Jane A. Hines, CMC, City Clerk

7
