SECTION 10: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Please provide a brief summary of how your agency will use this federal funding. Refer to the COPS Application Guide for
clarification on specific information to include in your summary, and be sure to provide a description of how you expect
this grant to impact public safety and/or crime prevention in your community. The Executive Summary may be used to
keep Congress or other executive branch agencies informed on law enforcement strategies to deter crime in your
community.

[Please limit your responses to a maximum of 3,000 characters.]

Sunny Islcs Beach Policc Dcpartment
Florida
Captain Michael Grandinetti
305 792-1857
Estimated award amount: $200,000.00

The Sunny Islcs Beach Policc Dcpartmcnt has always bccn a progressive agcncy when it comcs to
technology improvement. Thc city has been committed to providing its officcrs thc latest tools to aidc
thcm in their daily cnforccment activitics. An cxample of the departmcnt's commitmcnt to technology
is the computcr assisted dispatch. Thc dcpartmcnt implemcntcd a program to outfit cvcry police car in
the department with a computer that is linkcd with thc communications office. This allows officcrs to
be dispatchcd to calls and communicatc with communications via a computer.

Duc to budgct constraints the city has bccn forccd to limit its cxpcnditures for the policc department.
This limiting of expenditures left administrators with an important decision to make. Keep jobs or
limit the amount of money allocated to the tcchnology improvement program. With the grant funds thc
police departmcnt will seek to enhance several tcchnology programs to include automatic tag reader
systcms, a radio station, and dcfibrillators.

We anticipate that by utilizing thc grant funds it will allow the policc department to have a lasting
positive effect on the community in which we serve. The automatic tag readers will allow officcrs to
identifY vehiclcs that rcquirc a police investigation to apprchcnd offenders or victims of crimes (i.e.
Amber Alerts). The radio station will allow the police departmcnt to broadcast important mcssages to
the community to alert them to potential hazards or evcnts. It is a known fact that thc Sunny Islcs
Bcach Policc Department serves a diversc community. One of the groups that makc up this diverse
community is scnior citizens. The defibrillators will allow officcrs responding to medical calls thc
ability to potentially savc a lifc.
