I

architecture . engineering

PALM BEACH COUNTY JUDICIAL CENTER
West Palm Beach, Florida

ACAI Associates was selected as Palm
Beach County's Roofing and Waterproofing
Consultant because of the firm's relevant
experience and expertise at this unique disci-
pline.

The Palm Beach County Judicial Center was
a failed system from the time it was originally
built. ACAI's first assignment as roofing con-
sultant for Palm Beach County was to make
the buildings watertight.

Re-roofing of a multiple building complex in a
"live" campus setting is always a challenge -
our work at the Palm Beach County Judicial
Center was no different. This judicial center
included a 12-story courthouse building, a
six-story State's Attorney and Public
Defenders facility, and a one-story energy
center.

First Phase - 11 Story courthouse building
consisted of approximately 110,000 sq. ft. of
re-roof area with a SBS Modified' Bitumen
System on a multi-level building from low-rise
to high-rise. Work included complete foren-
sic investigations, testing, failure analysis,
tear-off and re-roof on new tapered insulation
system. Upon completion ACAI successfully
represented the County in a dispute resolu-
tion through mediation of claims with the
original design/build management team.

Second Phase - 6 Story State's Attorney
Public Defender Building. Re-roof of 35,000
sq. ft. deck in a "live campus" setting. Work
included complete tear-off and re-roofing with
a Coal Tar Pitch System utilizing metal flash-
ing, and counterflashing on a new insulation
system.

c.ee.e~'f.4ttIe9

construction management

~
~
~

architecture

engineering

roofing consulting

4ltd '},,,,It'} ~4C'
