<br />I <br />ADDITIONAL <br />PROJECT EXPERIENCE <br /> <br /> <br />PROJECT: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Naranja Lakes Site, 8-acre parcel <br />Vicinity of SW 280th Street & SW 149th Avenue <br />Homestead, FL <br /> <br />CLIENT/OWN ER: <br /> <br />Private Developer / Miami-Dade Public Schools <br /> <br />COMPLETION DATE/STATUS: 2009 <br /> <br />NUTTING'S FEES: <br /> <br />$40,000 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />This property was intended to be donated to the school board by a developer. Nutting worked very closely <br />with Miami-Dade County DERM and Miami-Dade Public Schools on this site. Through our Environmental <br />assessments we discovered the site was backfilled with unsuitable materials including construction <br />materials, car parts and vegetative matter, etc. The materials resulted in elevated concentrations of <br />ammonia and iron exceeding groundwater target clean up target levels and the presence of methane in the <br />subsurface. Groundwater and methane monitoring was performed at this site requested by MDERM. Given <br />the presence of these contaminants, construction of the school over the area of contamination was not <br />recommended. However through sub division of the property and Nutting's recommendation to address <br />methane migration concerns from the area of contamination through the installation of a moat around the <br />area of contamination, development of the remainder of the parcel as an educational facility was approved <br />by MDERM. <br /> <br />Additional services performed at the site included the installation of twenty two-inch diameter shallow <br />monitoring wells for groundwater and methane analyses. The wells were installed utilizing the Hollow Stem <br />Auger Methodology. Each well was installed to approximately eleven feet below land surface with one foot <br />of casing and a ten foot of well screen. A filter sand media was placed around the well screen, followed by <br />a transitional layer of betonite seal with neat grout from the betonite seal to top of the monitoring well. Final <br />completion included an eight-inch diameter manhole set in a two foot by two foot concrete pad and <br />aluminum stand pipe. Furthermore, Nutting Engineers performed a preliminary geotechnical exploration <br />including the performance of three twenty-foot deep standard penetration test borings in an effort to further <br />evaluate subsurface conditions for load bearing capacity and foundation design recommendations. <br /> <br />8r~~~~~ <br />
